The second of two appearances by Denny Miller on Our Vines Have Tender Apes (1967). The first one was two years earlier of a surfer brought to the island by a storm in Big Man on a Little Stick (1965).
The same footage of the incoming helicopter was used just two episodes earlier, in "The Hunter."
Denny Miller, who plays a Tarzan-like character in this episode, starred as Tarzan in Tarzan, the Ape Man (1959).
The episode title parodies the name of the 1945 MGM movie, "Our Vines Have Tender Grapes," and the 1940 novel by George Victor Martin, on which the movie is based about the Norwegian-American residents of a small Wisconsin farming community.
This is the fifth and final time that a gorilla is seen on the island. The first; was in "Diamonds Are An Apes Best Friend" ( #1.22), the second was in "Beauty Is As Beauty Does" (#2.2), the third was in "Chain of Command" (#2.11), and the fourth was in "Forward March" (#2.22).
