Carter And Hollywood
sambase-387735 December 2021
This is one of the funniest episodes of the entire series. Tough guy Sgt. Carter meets his match when he tries to act in a movie. Actually, all he really has to do is say one line - just one line. But that one line is like a tiger in the jungle. And Sgt. Carter can't find it. And when he does find it it bites him.

Carter is a secret lover of the movie business. Hollywood is the land of magic for him. There is no place in the world he would rather be than in Hollywood. It gives him goosebumps. It gives him chills. He's awestruck. But, sometimes, when you want something a little too much it can make you clumsy. Carter becomes as clumsy as is humanly possible.

We can't help but feel bad for Carter even when he's making us laugh because we know his dream is crumbling. But sometimes when our dreams are shattered we find out who we really are - or are at least reminded. Comedy and tragedy go together in sweet and intimate ways. And the balance of that is the beauty of this episode. It's an absolute classic.

Whiney, mopey Gomer...
pmike-1131223 August 2022
While I enjoyed the Gomer character on the AndyGriffith Show, on this show the character became more and more whiney, mopey, and downright annoying. And this idiotic 4-part "in Hollywood making a movie" story arc......'nuff said.
