Gomer collects some money from the guys so he can buy Sgt. Carter a gift for his 35th birthday. They don't want to give him any money, but Gomer talks them into it. After getting the money he goes to the gift shop and buys Carter a watch. A calendar watch. It not only tells the time it also tells you what the date is. Holy cow. It cost $16. Holy cow. But that's the exact amount of money that Gome has.
Okay, so they give the watch to Carter and he starts to think about how old he is and how time really flies. I felt the same way when I was in my 30's. I felt like I was getting quite old.
Sgt. Carter tries to address his feelings of getting old by competing against his men. Bad idea. He throws out his back. That's what happens when you're 35. You throw out your back reaching for a pencil. Well, that's how I did it anyway, but Carter does it while doing deep knee bends. Then he goes to the doctor. That's the cue for Gomer to start meddling and making things even worse.
