Gomer Pyle is in the barracks and all of a sudden a delivery man comes in and says that Gomer needs to sign for the delivery, a brand new motor boat! Gomer is flabbergasted. The delivery man is bored with the whole thing and just wants Gomer to hurry up and sign so that he can leave. But Gomer makes him explain what's going on and the delivery man says that Gomer is getting the boat because he won a contest, a jingle writing contest. Oh, so that's it!
Gomer tells Sgt. Carter that he's just going to send the boat back which makes Carter cringe. Send the boat back and end up with nothing? Why on Earth would anybody do that? But Gomer being Gomer he says that just winning is enough for him even without the prize. You can tell that Sgt. Carter is thinking: "You big dummy!" And he tries to talk Gomer into keeping the boat and offers to help him pay for the costs. In fact, he generously offers to pay for any and all costs to run the boat as long as Gomer makes him an equal partner in the venture. Gomer agrees. Now, let's get that boat down to the water.
This is where things start to go sour. And sour. And sour. Nothing seems to go right. Apparently, owning and operating a boat is much more expensive and complicated than one would think. And it can sometimes lead to disaster, especially with a Gomer Pyle around to screw things up.
This is a very funny episode that I thoroughly enjoyed. And it gives a very good lesson about boat ownership. I enjoyed it so much I gave it a "10".
