Final appearance of Albert Reed as Alderman Davis
kevinolzak27 December 2016
"The Art Contest" marked the sixth and final appearance of Albert Reed's Alderman Fred Davis, introduced in the third season episode "The Politicians." JJ tries to hold on to his discouraged art students, Leo (Ron Trice) running off to join the Navy, Emily Gibbs (Renee Brown) a very real talent unsure of a future on canvas. JJ's latest masterpiece is his guaranteed winner of the second annual District Art Contest, entrusting a hungry Bookman with the task of delivering it to District Hall. 'Buffalo Butt' is too busy enjoying his sweet potato pie to grab the right painting, taking Emily's instead of JJ's. Alderman Davis announces the Silver Cup Award to JJ's painting, which everyone recognizes as Emily's, the rightful winner present and proud to accept. Whatever disappointment JJ feels is overcome by the knowledge that his finest student is earning him accolades.
