Thelma's glasses

Warning: Spoilers
This is the only episode where Thelma wears glasses. Thelma looks very pretty in this episode. I'm glad she took the glasses off at one point, so I could better appreciate how pretty she looked. This episode is also the only one in which Thelma is writing play (or anything else). The story is kind of predictable, as the drama teacher gradually tries to change almost everything about Thelma's play. Thelma draws the line when the teacher wants " black woman" changed. Thelma is right when she refuses to make this change. However, her verbal exchange with the teacher conveys some form of racial tension. This seemed inappropriate, since the episode was relatively light-hearted up to this point. Thelma gets emotional at the end of the episode. She got me emotional, too. I guess I'm a sucker for a pretty face.

Thelma the playwright

"Write On, Thelma" finds Thelma engrossed in her script for drama teacher Mrs. Slicker (Jane Connell), who proudly announces that Thelma's play will be presented by the community theater, earning $250 as well. There are a number of changes instigated by the program director because of his messy divorce, but Thelma rolls with the punches. The reading of the script takes place at the Evans apartment, with Penny already in her Easter pageant costume as a tree, repeating her Mae West impression. JJ misreads one character as 'Madame La Foot!' Bookman's $8 an hour plumber (DeForest Covan) puts in his two cents worth, while 'Buffalo Butt' adds his impersonation of Louis Armstrong. An author of integrity, Thelma draws the line when she's required to drop the phrase 'black woman' to just 'woman,' willing to compromise but not surrender.
