- A ventriloquist named Jimmy O' James finds Slappy's ventriloquist case and accidentally summons Slappy, and now only two teens Jillian, Harrison and Jillian's sister, Katie can stop him but now Slappy is in love with Mary Ellen, Katie's doll and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
- One stormy Friday evening, Jimmie O'James (Wayne Robson), a hapless ventriloquist, is wandering through an alleyway looking through trash when he comes across a suitcase padlocked shut. When he attempts to pry the lock open with a crowbar, a bolt of lightening strikes the suitcase open, surprising him. Jimmie opens it only to unhappily discover a dummy (Ron Stefaniuk). On top of the dummy, Jimmie finds a slip of paper with some print on it. Before he can read it, the paper blows away in a sudden breeze. Jimmie follows the breeze and recovers the paper to read a strange, magical incantation. Suddenly, the dummy springs to life and introduces himself as Slappy much to Jimmie's confusion. Slappy informs Jimmie that he can make him an "offer he can't refuse."
On a Saturday afternoon, The Amazing Jimmie O'James is featured at The Theatre with Slappy. Their comedy act is a riot with the audience in attendance, primarily composed of children with their parents. In the middle of the performance, Slappy hesitates and stares out into the audience, blankly. The whole auditorium goes silent before Jimmie regains Slappy's attention and the show continues.
Afterwards, teenager Jillian Zinman (Andreanne Benidir), sister Katie (Sophie Bennett), and friend Harrison Cohen (Michael Vollans) leave the show. Jillian asks Katie if she enjoyed herself to which Katie nonchalantly responds "it was okay." This reaction upsets Harrison who feels as if he wasted his time before pointing out Katie is missing Mary-Ellen, her doll. Oddly enough, Katie begins to panic in a bizarre fashion claiming that Mary-Ellen threatened to "do something bad" to her if she ever was abandoned. When Jillian and Harrison attempt to placate her, Katie rushes back into the auditorium to retrieve Mary-Ellen. They ultimately split up at opposite ends of the building to search for Katie.
Jillian wanders backstage where she descends a dark, imposing stairway. She overhears Jimmie shouting and Slappy laughing. Jillian follows the noise to Jimmie's dressing room where she discovers Slappy is alive. Jimmie is accusing Slappy of taking advantage of and abusing their partnership by treating him like a slave. Jillian suddenly falls forward and the door swings wide open. Embarassed, Jillian hastily apologizes to Jimmie. He claims he was working on a new act with Slappy which involved the two of them engaging in an argument. Jimmie had installed a radio control motor inside of Slappy in order to enable the dummy to mobilize himself around the stage. He prepares to sign an autographed photo for Jillian though she says that she, instead, is looking for her younger sister who lost her doll. Jimmie has Jillian sign her address into a notepad in case the cleaners come across it, they will be able to send it to her. Jillian, however, seems to be more interested in Slappy who she thinks moved sitting positions. While Jillian is writing her contact information, Jimmie angrily looks over at Slappy.
Jillian arrives at the main entrance with an unwanted autograph where she finds Harrison, Katie, and Mary-Ellen. Harrison claims he found Katie wandering around here. Katie denies that she was wandering and, instead, argues that Mary-Ellen got lost when looking for Slappy. The trio leave with Jillian warning Katie to keep hold of Mary Ellen before crumpling up the autographed picture and throwing it into the trash.
At the Zinman house, Bob (Philip Shepherd), Jillian and Katie's father, is busy sawing away on his power saw in the basement, intent on breaking the world record for the number of birdhouses built. Jillian tries calling out to him, but his earmuffs prevent him from hearing her. She turns off the power saw to inform him dinner's ready, and the two return upstairs.
The doorbell rings and the girls' mother Connie (Karen Waddell) answers while trying to quiet Kevin, the family dog. She heaves in a large suitcase addressed to Jillian. Upon opening the case, Jillian discovers it's Slappy along with a letter. Jimmie is writing to Jillian claiming that after meeting her at The Theatre, he believes Jillian would make the best caretaker for Slappy. He is starting future acts without the dummy and would like to give Slappy the best home possible.
Apparently, Jillian isn't too thrilled with the new responsibility, so she decides to store Slappy in the basement. Jillian is startled by Katie who she finds in the basement. Katie claims Mary-Ellen detests Jillian and wants Slappy to stay in their bedroom. Jillian isn't fazed and claims that because 'their' bedroom was formerly 'hers' she makes the final decision that Slappy is staying in the basement because he is creepy. Suddenly, Slappy bites Jillian's hand, frightening her. She screams for Katie to help her, but Katie insists Mary-Ellen won't let her. Jillian bashes Slappy's head into the counter before Slappy releases his bite. She throws the dummy onto a pile of laundry and kicks his leg. Jillian assumes the radio control motor must be the cause to blame why Slappy bit her. Katie says that Mary-Ellen assumes its Slappy's way of protesting against being in the basement. Jillian begins to get irritated and drags Katie back upstairs. Once the door closes, Slappy stares up at them.
Later that night, Slappy, snickering evilly, walks through the hallway towards Jillian and Katie's bedroom. Kevin barks profusely at him. Kevin's barking wakes Jillian who appears to be annoyed, but eventually goes back to sleep.
On Sunday morning, Katie awakens to discover Slappy sitting on their dresser with the words "I want my Bride!" written in red lipstick on the mirror. Katie screams, waking Jillian as the two stare at the horrific sight before them, beyond frightened.
As Jillian cleans the mirror, she accuses Katie of placing Slappy on the dresser and vandalizing the mirror as a prank. Katie admits neither she nor Mary-Ellen were the primary culprits, but in fact, a vengeful Slappy. Jillian is tired of Katie speaking about Mary-Ellen and Slappy as if they were human and comes to the conclusion to return Slappy to Jimmie. Katie believes Jillian is only raising Mary-Ellen's ire due to the fact that she has developed romantic feelings for Slappy.
Connie calls the girls into the hallway where she accuses one of them of stealing her wedding ring out of her jewelry box. Both girls deny knowing anything about it just as she hands Jillian her jewelry box. Connie instructs Jillian and Katie to finish cleaning the mirror, find her wedding ring, and take Kevin out for a run who she hasn't seen all day. Connie claims she will be at her aerobics class and will not be back until tonight before leaving the house. With all of the chores to be done, Katie doesn't believe Jillian can return Slappy, though Jillian tells her to "guess again."
That night, Jillian shows up at the building where Jimmie O'James resides with Slappy inside of the suitcase. A bunch of lights are turned on, startling Jillian who shrieks when she finds body parts of dummies strewn about. Jimmie tells Jillian the dummies were Slappy's rivals who he destroyed because he is pure evil. Slappy, himself, cannot be destroyed, but only passed around. He intentionally wanted to be sent to live Jillian and Katie and forced Jimmie to write her the letter. When Jimmie notices Jillian brought Slappy with her, he orders her to remove the dummy from the premises. Jillian claims she spent half of her babysitting savings on a cab and refuses to turn back. She opens the case to reveal Kevin. Jimmie accuses Jillian of playing a prank, though Jillian realizes that Slappy must have switched himself with the dog and still be back at the house.
At the Zinman house, Harrison and Katie are watching a mash-up of Goosebumps horror episodes (The Scarecrow Walks At Midnight & The Werewolf of Fever Swamp). Harrison is pigging out on the Zinman's food supply to the point where he receives a stomach ache and runs upstairs to the bathroom to vomit.
Katie answers the ringing telephone to hear Jillian on the other end. She warns Katie to evacuate the house claiming the evil Slappy is still inside and is alive. Suddenly, Slappy is heard on a telephone extension in another part of the house demanding his bride and that he is indestructible.
Meanwhile, Harrison finishes retching in the sink when he asks himself why he ate so much. He hears the door slam shut and finds out that he is locked inside. He initially thinks its a prank played by Katie and playfully asks her to let him out.
When Katie returns back to the living room, she finds out that Mary-Ellen has gone missing and hears Slappy's evil laughter nearby. A thunderstorm is heard outside with lightening and thunder illuminating the house's interior. Slappy shuts off the electricity prompting Katie to scream in fear. Harrison bangs on the bathroom door asking Katie to let him out. He starts to get impatient with Katie when she tells him the key is missing and orders her to procure it.
Katie hears Slappy's laughter once again and enters her bedroom where she finds Mary-Ellen sitting on her bed. She hastily asks Mary-Ellen Slappy's whereabouts, though to no avail--Mary-Ellen doesn't answer. Katie hears footsteps coming up the stairs and a shadow lurching down the hallway. Thinking its Slappy, she closes the door only to struggle with Jillian who's on the other side. Katie tells Jillian that Harrison is locked in the bathroom and Slappy is in possession of the key. Jillian announces they will need to leave before Slappy finds them. Against her better judgment, Katie insists on bringing Mary-Ellen or else she won't let her leave. Unbeknownst to them, Slappy is trying to break through a vent in their room.
The girls run down the hallway where Jillian assures Harrison that they will get help. They run downstairs where they are sidetracked by an irate Slappy who angrily demands his bride. They turn around only to be accosted by Slappy again who continuously calls after them "My bride! My bride!" as they turn around and descend into the basement, closing the door behind them. Jillian struggles with Slappy to close the door as she pleads with Katie to help her. Katie persists that Mary-Ellen refuses to let her do so. Jillian leads Katie over to a small window intending to let her out. Katie continues to say that Mary-Ellen won't let her because she wants to stay with Slappy. Jillian has gotten to the end of her rope with the Mary-Ellen nonsense and confiscates her. After Jillian inadvertently insults Mary-Ellen she springs to life. Jillian shrieks and throws her onto a table in shock.
Mary-Ellen forces Katie to tell Jillian how she fell in love with Slappy and how Katie has literally become her 'slave.' Katie says that she were to ever defy Mary-Ellen, the doll threatened to hurt her family.
Jillian races to open another window only to be surprised by Slappy who climbs into the basement as Jillian and Katie nervously huddle in a corner. Slappy reveals that he brought the ring he intends to marry his bride with which Jillian identifies as belonging to her mother. Mary-Ellen announces to Slappy her love for him only to be shunned and horribly insulted by Slappy who smacks her onto the ground. Slappy says that his 'bride' is in fact, Katie.
A vengeful Mary-Ellen attacks Slappy by tackling him on the stairs. Slappy grabs onto the electricity box which sparks an idea for Jillian. She instructs Katie to stay where she is as she switches on Bob's power saw. Simultaneously, as Slappy and Mary-Ellen are struggling, he turns the electricity back on. As Mary-Ellen yells, Slappy throws Mary-Ellen, along with himself, into the power saw, reducing them into nothing but shreds of wood, plastic, and doll parts.
As Jimmie had told Jillian before, Slappy's evil spirit cannot be destroyed. His and Mary-Ellen's evil souls fly about the room, scaring Jillian and Katie before dissipating. Jillian and Katie are finally relieved believing everything is all over. Jillian retrieves Connie's wedding ring, completing their last chore for the night just as Katie makes the lasting conclusion that she is "getting too old for dolls." With this, the look on Mary-Ellen's face appears to be angry.
As Jillian and Katie are walking towards the front door, they're both wondering that if Slappy's spirit cannot be destroyed--where could've it gone to? Suddenly, the door opens. It's Bob and Connie who have returned home. Jillian and Katie are relieved which prompts their parents to become suspicious, questioning them about why they are on edge. Upstairs, Harrison knocks on the door. Jillian and Katie realize they forgot Harrison was still locked inside. Bob and Connie start to become even more suspicious as the family trails upstairs to unlock Harrison.
When they open the door, the Zinman's find Harrison leaning over the sink. Jillian steps forward and calls out to him. Harrison turns around and is shown to be possessed by Slappy's spirit given the bulging eyes and Slappy's voice. All they can do, is huddle together and stare in horror and disgust.
