The Quintessential episode.
Maedhros3523 July 2008
This episode of Grey's Anatomy (normally not my show) is the absolute sum-mum of what an episode in a recurring series can bring. Plot, humor, a thriller, sex, good music... this episode may perhaps not be surpassed by any series, and can be put on level with Tarantino's episode on CSI Las Vegas.

The best part of it may be that it's part one of a two-part episode, ending on a thrilling cliffhanger making one immediately grab the next episode.

Small summary of the episode: a seriously injured man is brought in by a ambulance worker (played by Christina Ricci), along with him comes Dr. Bailey in labor and her husband, who crashed in traffic. Ten minutes later, the hospital is evacuated and everyone in the hospital is in danger of their lives....

Doesn't get better than this
repolk20 August 2006
I have been watching all the re-runs over the summer of Grey's Anatomy. I am not a big TV watcher, but I had to find out what the hype was all about with this show...now I know; I have been an avid fan of shows before, but there is something so totally different and awesome about this one...I am Obsessed...never thought I would ever say that about anything on TV. I am nearing the end of the first season, and I have revolved my entire life around my watching this show...I record it so I can be absolutely sure I miss nothing. It is Sunday and TWO episodes are coming on tonight. I'm feeling like a child does the night before Christmas, which is so out of character for me. This show totally rocks...and this is coming from a 36 year old married mom...obsessed, obsessed, obsessed. This particular episode, "It's the End of the World", BLEW me away. I'm so glad I saw it as a re-run because the "to be continued" was back to back. If I had to wait a whole week to see what happened, I think I would have freaked :) This episode is the best thing I have EVER seen on TV.

Masterpiece!!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a masterpiece! Still one of my all time favourites, 15 years later.

I have seen this episode at least 10 times, but I still manage to get excited, anxious, and my pulse go up.

The shower scene in the beginning is so awesome, and combined with the one at the end, it is simply perfection!

The episode is filled with heroes, some might say it's a bit much, and that it's unrealistic that all our favourite actors behave brave and heroic. But I think they managed to make them perfectly brave without it being cheesy. Cutting it close, but still. I love heroes!!

Every little second in this episode is necessary and belongs there.

An answer to the viewer who wrote in another review here: Alex never mentioned anything about code black. Alex knows that a bazooka has a grenade inside. And when he learned that it was a bazooka that shot Mr. Carlson, he ran to find out if the grenade was still in the patient. It was Dr. Burke who called it a code black first, and all of the attendings knew the code. The interns didn't.

And to the one who asked why they didn't wheel the pasient out of the hospital once they found out it was a bomb in him: Their job is to save lives. It would not be natural to just wheel the pasient out of the hospital....and then what? Let him die? And what about Hanna? She could die if she tries to just pull out her hand. They have an obligation to save lives, and you cannot measure who deserves most to be rescued. They would not be able to save Mr. Carlson outside of the OR, and they would never just leave Hanna alone with him like that.

Might be the series high point

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is so brilliantly written. Every major plot thread was woven with incredible precision, almost like a living tapestry with converging, though separate paths. I loved how unpredictable everything felt; as the jolts of dread set in after each twist and turn, you're left hanging on to the edge of your seat, fingers clenched tightly around the remote. There are so many remarkable moments that reveal how we're supposed to feel about these characters. Whether it's Burke-with his seemingly supernatural equanimity from the instant he was apprised of the situation-or the courage Derek displayed in fighting to save Bailey's husband, this episode was such a gratifying way to cement our relationships to these characters. It also raised the stakes in a significant way, exposing many established regulars to mortal danger for the first time (although this would later become a trope deployed ad nauseam in "Grey's"). Worth noting is how incredible it was that they got two outstanding guest stars for "It's the End of the World...As We Know It" in the form of Kyle Chandler and Cristina Ricci. I'm not sure there's ever been such a great double-whammy on guest stars in the same arc, really incredible stuff from those two. Even the minor plot lines were engaging, such as George and Izzie tacitly acknowledging their status as less capable of excellence than their peers, Meredith and Cristina (which, if we're being tough here, is true when you see how everyone's career progressed). All around superb episode of television. While I also enjoyed the follow-up to "It's the End of the World," I found the melodrama a tad heavy. Might be my favorite of the series.

Greys Anatomy is by far my most favorite show in TV. I tell all of my friends I cannot start my week with out seeing Greys Anatomy!! This episode in Particular was executed perfectly! Coming from an Acting background, I wish I could be on the set with these amazing actors!! It was amazing!! Christina Ricci was perfect for the role! If you do not know her, she played in Prozac Nation and was Wednesday in the Adams Family! This episode was perfect! The only reason I watched the super bowl was so I would not miss this! This show goes deep in my heart because I'm studying to be a Cranial facial Surgical Nurse! The episode on the Nurse's Striking was phenomenal! Not to mention "George" was excellent! He's always excellent!! T.R. Knight does wonderfully in this show! HE is my favorite actor! Really all I can say about this episode is... I am lost for words. Bravo!

Jumping in the deep end

Warning: Spoilers
This episode of Grey's was the first one I saw of the show. What an intro!! The fact that it was a two-parter hooked me in to waiting for the conclusion back before streaming was a thing.

It would take too much detail to explain why this is important to me, but then Shonda blew up the guy from Early Edition, one of my all time favorite shows. I was traumatized but intrigued and totally hooked.

Still an avid fan.

Title When Originally Aired = Code Black

I didn't get then and still don't get now how Alex knew what Code Black meant but all the other people didn't.

ZegMaarJus25 July 2023

Mindy is screaming after her husband. Tucker gets a seizure. Tucker is Bailey her husband. Mindy tells to Alex that James shot himself with a bazooka. Alex tells Preston that there is a body inside of James his body. There has been a code black in the hospital. Addison tells Bailey that Tucker is in surgery. Amazing Episode of Grey's Anatomy Season 2, this was the best Episode of Grey's Anatomy so far. This Episode gets a 10!

But why not wheel the bomb patient back out of the hospital
bob-bedford20 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry... I love this series, but this particular episode was hard to watch... ridiculous plot just for the sake of maximizing drama. So, a home-made bomb gets shot into a man and doesn't explode. He probably falls on the ground when that happens and the bomb still doesn't explode. The paramedics load him into an ambulance and one of the paramedics puts her hand in the patient to stop the bleeding. Eventually, they wheel him into the OR while the paramedic still has her hand in him. Now, when they finally find out there is a bomb in the guy, it's the end of the world... they don't even think to at least wheel the patient back out of the hospital... no, that would reduce the drama of the bomb exploding in the hospital while Dr. Shepherd is performing brain surgery on Dr. Bailey's husband.

Grey's Anatomy is the BEST !!!!!
lperez_171710 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This show is the best! Everyweek I can't wait for Sunday just so that I can see McDreamy and Meredith once again. I love the connection that they have. This particular episode had me at the edge of my seat. I can't wait until Sunday to watch the conclusion PART 2. ABC had to show it again on WED for anyone who missed it and it was just as exciting... I LOVE THIS SHOW. My favorite part of this episode was when Meredith says.... "She took my McDreamy and my McDog well I meant to give my dog to him not to her but she's got my Mclife... I just want to feel like I want to die. I need something to keep me going and until then I'm staying in bed." ....Then the preview... "how's the girl with the bomb" .. "It's Meredith" ... oh it just gave me chills...
