Kitty saves her friend

Warning: Spoilers
This was a very good episode. A dandy prim and proper old friend of Kitty's comes to Dodge for a visit. He is appalled to see Kitty working in a saloon, much more an owner. He tries to defend her honor and almost gets into a gunfight twice. Kitty steps in and saves him. The ending when Kitty has to hurt his feelings to save his life is very touching. Interesting episode.

A Woman's Reputation

A young Southern gentleman (McGuire) comes to Dodge to visit his sister's old friend, Kitty. Trouble is he's got a hair-trigger sense of honor that's bound to get him in trouble with the roughnecks of Dodge. But how long can Kitty and Matt keep his run-ins from escalating into gunplay.

McGuire is excellent as the headstrong young dude, while Blake gets to show her acting chops in a featured role. Catch Kitty's spat with Matt over why men are the way they are. Blake can certainly be commanding when she needs to, making a good foil to the authoritative Arness. All in all, it's a slightly different kind of story with a poignant outcome considering what Kitty gives up.

Kitty's Elegant Past (part of it).

Warning: Spoilers
Okay, the kid didn't know how Kitty had changed into a bar owner. He didn't get a lot of stuff, but what we didn't get, up to this point, is the fact that Kitty had a very good reputation in New Orleans. Well, write that one off the books. Oh, she's still a lady, alright, but a lot tougher, and a lot more savvy with a lot less Victorian nonsense in her blood, especially when she's got her claws out all shiny, sharpened and ready to slice.

Giving the kid such a rude awakening, though, reminded her of the person she used to be, and now could not ever go back to being. Great acting from Amanda Blake in this one.

The dandy gent from Orleans was just too obnoxious.

New Orleans dandy-man, Billy Chris, arrives in Dodge to see Ms Kitty. It seems that Billy is the brother of an old friend of Kitty's, many years ago, before Kitty moved to Dodge. Billy is on his way out west and offered to ride and see Kitty for his sister. However Billy is horrified to find that Kitty is a saloon woman and even part owner. Billy finds himself wanting to defend the honor of Kitty Russell even when Kitty feels her honor does not need defending.

When Billy wants to start trouble with some rowdy cowboys Kitty tries to find a way to keep Billy from getting hurt or even killed. When Matt refuses to get involved, Kitty will have to take drastic action to avoid the death of a man defending her honor.

Even though the ending of the episode is actually heart-breaking, for the most part the show did not carry much interest. It was like a child was running loose on the streets of Dodge and no one in the cast would scold him. It was nice to see some of Kitty's old friends but perhaps they should have some valuable information before getting off the stage in the rural west.
