Virginia Chapman is credited as a gypsy, but is not seen in this show. Fifteen shows later, in The Killer (1956), Chapman appears as the gypsy, but is uncredited. And with the outfit that Matt has on in the later show, it would appear to have been filmed for this show but not used.
The title of this episode relates to dialogue during a conversation in a barn. John Carradine's character makes a biblical reference to a reed swaying in the wind, and Matt Dillon replies that it's important the reed not break. In the Bible, the "reed swaying in the wind" was a reference to John the Baptist (Matt 11:7). Dillon's response is an allusion to Matthew 12:20, "A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory" (which line is a reference back to Isaiah 42:3).
In this episode, in a rare departure from his normal practice, Matt wears a period-correct belt holster for his pistol, instead of his customary buscadero combination rig, which was not invented until the early 1900s.
