A fairly decent description of a rehabilitation facility
jeninga197626 March 2014
I have a relative who has been to a rehabilitation center similar to the one depicted in the movie 28 days. I will say that the routines they showed such as keeping the patients together at meal time, and also group therapy is accurate. I also am aware that most patients do have roommates, and the check in that Sandra Bullock's character had to go through is fairly accurate as well. No shoestrings, no mirrors, nothing sharp, and of course no medications allowed in. 'Gwen' wanting to isolate when she first arrived was an accurate response to how most people entering would be, as my friend told me she was apprehensive not knowing anyone, and the realization of why she was there. All in all, I didn't see much wrong with the movie, but the chanting and singing doesn't really take place. Almost all activities are done in group setting and no one on one therapy takes place except for perhaps when the Dr. is there to monitor their medications if they are on certain ones. Also the being alone without staff at the lake is unusual. Having a substance abuse problem or a mental condition are things that we all should try to understand and be supportive because when you think about it, these things affect most families in our country and around the world. Don't turn your back on the ones you love.
