It's Ascot Heaven in the World of HIgh Fashion.

This one was interesting. First thing to note is that Joe Pantoliano has hair in this one. The next thing of interesting note is that the guy playing a very rich man with a cane, Sándor Naszódy, has eyebrows born to play a Klingon and absolutely must have taken a wrong turn on his way to the Star Trek set. He sure had creepy down in this one, so either role would have worked. In the meantime, this episode is set in the world of high fashion in the early '80's and built around designer Michaele Vollbracht. Which brings me to the third point of note, which is that it was still disco and ascot heaven at that time. Yikes! The circumstantial evidence pointed to all kinds of red herrings before I unravelled this one. But ultimately, this episode moved and had great supporting characters. Without a doubt, the best part of this episode was the scene just before hte halfway point where J & J have turned out the light so Jonathan can "get the adequate amount of sleep," and then after several beats, he goes, "RRWAGH!" and startles her. Whether it was scripted or one of the famous attempts at setside hijinx, Stefanie is genuinely startled and laughs heartily, and RJ glances meaningfully off set as he laughs afterward. Seems like a blooper to me. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't; no matter what, it's gold! Also, it appears *not* to be a StuntMax skipping out the door in the final scene. Very impressive.

Jennifer and Jonathan go modelling
coltras3517 September 2023
After a young model is killed at a fashion party, Jennifer and Jonathan agree to pose for a fashion shoot that leads to another murder. But Jennifer may have been the intended victim.

There's a few suspects in this mystery, one of them being a designer with weird eyebrows. He's a creepy man with designs on models. There is some creepy atmosphere, and a great performance by former bond girl Lois Chiles as a model. The music by Styx and the Fame soundtrack feature- it's a solid entry with a suspenseful finale. Even after nabbing the killer, the Harts show a touch of sympathy. The build up to the murders is done well and there's a good red herring in regards to hearing the walking stick sound.

A dip in the world of fashion circa 1980

What I know about haute couture can be written on a postage stamp. What I care about it amounts to less. But I have been aware of models. I met Cindy Crawford once in the early 1990s and my voice cracked when I talked to her. In real life she was a beautiful woman.

In this episode of H2H Lois Chiles guest stars as the most prominent model in a line-up of lovelies targeted by a nut-case killer. But while the killer apparently prefers beautiful young things, anyone standing in the killer's way is in danger.

These are not our twenty-first century models with the unhealthy aspect of heroin addicts. They're not so waifish. These women have figures. The great models splashed on magazine covers in the late 1970s and early 1980s were heathy-looking girl-next-door types, if you live next door to women who rarely eat. They were more like actresses than modern models. Thin (sometimes painfully so) but human.

We meet Scottie (Chiles), a prime target (being the star) and her sister, Mary. A designer with freaky eyebrows. An elderly seamstress. A photographer eager to snap the Harts at home. And several models driven to succeed in their chosen profession. Lots of suspects, lots of potential targets. Who will die next? And who is the murderer? A large cast and in the time allotted not enough time to really know anyone. This episode might have made a good two-parter.

I hate current music but I'm no hypocrite. I hated the music of my day, too, when this episode was made. "Fame" (not a bad song) is played loud and some of the other music is pretty bad. Got disco?
