Touching, poignant episode
This is one of the best from Season Three. I really enjoyed the bittersweet interactions between two of the principal characters (played by Philip Reed and Dawn Wells), giving a poignant inner emotional dimension to the story (relatively rare for the series). This is enhanced by I believe the music of Max Steiner with these characters at about the 24 minute point and the end 48 minute location. I am reminded in association of the "Bittersweet" interactions between Anthony (played by Donald Davis) and Annie (played by Yvette Mimieux)in JOY IN THE MORNING (1965). I am also reminded similarly in the excellent RAWHIDE episode, "Incident of the Dust Flower," with the touching interactions between Sophie (played by Margaret Phillips) and Henry (played by Tom Drake).

So kudos for the writers and spot-on cast for this HAWAIIAN EYE episode! By the way, you can go to the "External Sites" section to hear the music. Thank you.

TAKE THE DIAMONDS AND RUN, MAN!

I agree with the last reviewer, there is a bittersweet romance at work here, coupled with a good, old fashioned mystery. Who better to direct than Irving J. Moore, who went on to master DYNASTY and DALLAS.

Tracy gets into the action, investigating a murder linked to a jewelry theft case and some very interesting characters tossed in for good measure. Series writer Gloria Elmore put some extra thought into this story, also quite poignant at times.

Dawn Wells, in a very early role, plays Carolyn, caught up in the case and also in a semi romance with an older gentleman, Major Kirby, played by popular actor Philip Reed. Dawn is excellent in this part. June Vincent, a staple in many classic films, likewise has a very good role as Eleanor. TV favorite Roy Roberts plays Sam, a rather offbeat role for him, replete with cigarettes and a shot of whiskey. Roberts is always fun to watch.

Although this was largely filmed at Warner Brothers, some excellent background Hawaiian footage is interwoven, and very professionally done. In a series first, Cricket sings the tv theme song! --accompanied by Arthur Lyman and his band. Connie Stevens is super, as usual.

10 Stars, especially for fans of Dawn Wells. SEASON 3 EPISODE 28 remastered WB dvd box set.
