THE SECRET NOTE THAT AIN'T SECRET?
A special thank you to ME TV for resurrecting HAWAIIN EYE after many years. This was a classic cop show in its day and, perhaps, an inspiration to HAWAII FIVE O.
Edward Dein directed, who handled many cult films, such as the SHACK OUT ON 101, also a writer for a string of classic B films (the ones we grew up on as kids). Long time series writer Robert C. Dennis wrote this story, also credited for PERRY MASON and a ton of cop shows.
This story is original and what a cast! Veteran actor Phillip Terry plays a man with a HUGE problem. He hires Tracy (Anthony Eisley) ASAP, all because someone wants to kidnap his daughter (none other than a young Mary Tyler Moore). There's one hitch. The ransom note arrived BEFORE she was actually kidnapped? What? Then... Vanessa (Moore) disappears. Intriguing stuff.
Mary Tyler Moore, of course, gained a lot of attention by playing RICHARD DIAMOND'S (David Janssen) secretary, this leading to subsequent appearances on other cop shows. She made many appearances at Warner Brothers tv, also on SURFISIDE 6 and 77 SUNSET STRIP. And she's good, even in a small part. Let's not forget that Mary was a dynamic dramatic actress also.
There's a super supporting cast here with Robert Lowery as Cy, Linda Watkins (versatile in so many roles) playing Vivienne. Look for young Max Baer, Jr (a few years before the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES) as Bill and Charlie Chan's Number 1 son, Victor Sen Young as Al, a little older, but fun to watch.
A must see for this cast, and a darn good story with some solid fight scenes. SEASON 2 EPISODE 8 Warner Brothers dvd box set.
