Much of the information given here about Oi-lan's probable upbringing is incorrect. A Chinese woman of her time would not have been trained in martial arts, because women were supposed to be passive and submissive. And it is very unlikely that she would have been turned out at adulthood simply because her mother wasn't a favourite; she would either have been abandoned to die as a baby, or married off for political gain when she reached her teen years. A far more factually logical backstory would have been her simply running off with a lover, and that she was martially trained in secret, either by him or someone else.
Chinese people walk to ancient Greece, and then from Greece to Libya. Even though the series is not meant to be historically accurate, this is a little hard to believe. Unless it takes place in Robert E. Howard's Hyborean Age when geography was different and would allow this.
