What a Time Capsule for 1972!
kgraovac6 October 2023
Quite often the guest stars on Here's Lucy were past their prime or merely making a few bucks on this show after their own series had been canceled. Not so with this entry. While not one of my favorites, it IS a perfect time capsule of 1972 when Donny Osmond was the BOMB! You had to be there to realize how big he was at this time. We are talking near-Beatlemania heights of hysteria he evoked in teen and tween girls.

Lucy, Kim and Cousin Patricia (Eve Plumb) attend a Donny concert and Kim stays behind to get an album autographed for Patricia. Donny becomes smitten with Kim after agreeing to appear in a charity show with her. A misunderstanding about a note written by Patricia has the plot kick in. How does Kim "the older woman" let the teenage superstar down easy without ruining her chance to perform with him?

Donny's natural charm helps make this a nice, breezy episode without any zany Lucy shenanigans. Watch for Lucie and Donny's duet where she performs on a bar stool so as to eliminate their height difference. The only CON is that Eve Plumb is barely given anything to do except fawn in her seat over her idol. The episode would have been funnier had they made her a schemer like her Aunt Lucy. Lord knows she had enough practice on The Brady Bunch.

From the clothes and the music and the guest stars, this episode is a great relic that represents 1972 very well. I'm adding one star for the nostalgia value here.
