- Narrator: The foremost concerns of every officer of the Highway Patrol are constant surveillance and caution. A single second of carelessness can well mean failure in his duty, and possibly the loss of his life. On June 10th of last year, Highway Patrol Officer Ben Willkie committed just such an act of carelessness.

- [Buck Lester and his wife have been arrested. Buck lies on the ground, wounded. Dan Mathews finds stolen cash in their car]
- Dan Mathews: [shows the cash to Officer Larrabee, fanning it] Well, take a look at this.
- [to the Lesters]
- Dan Mathews: Big spenders, aren't you.
- Mrs. Lester: [to her husband] Thought you said you had everything figured out.
- Dan Mathews: Remember that complaint you made, or you were gonna make, against one of our officers - number was twelve-forty? The one you thought you killed? Well, he's alive. And now you got a real complaint.
- [hands the found cash to Officer Larrabee]
- Dan Mathews: Here.
- [to the Lesters]
- Dan Mathews: You know, you're gonna spend about fifty years in the pen. Maybe on visiting days he might come up to see ya.

- Dan Mathews: Awright, let's go. Move.
