The station deals with a smoking ban. Daniels (a sublimely slimy Jon Cypher) offers to endorse Furillo (Daniel J. Travanti, who's fine as ever) in exchange for a favor. LaRue (sturdy Kiel Martin) becomes smitten with snake-loving tattoo artist Terry Syvestri (a nicely sexy performance by Grace Zabriskie), who's helping him bust some thieves. Bates (an excellent Betty Thomas) tries to get Fabian (amiable Zero Hubbard) into a school. Buntz (the terrific Dennis Franz) sets up a drug bust. The smoking ban plot provides a good deal of laughs thanks to the hilarious havoc wrought by it, with the gut-busting highlight being when a fire breaks out in the men's room. Moreover, it's amusing to see LaRue make the moves on Terry only to blow his big chance with her after he accidentally shoots her beloved snake dead. Buntz's drug bust doesn't go according to plan, which causes Sid the Snitch (a deliciously wormy portrayal by Peter Jurasik) to fret up a storm about having his cover blown. Goldblume (top work from Joe Spano) has a strong confrontation scene with Buntz in which he once again takes issue with Buntz's dubious methods. Billy Drago contributes contributes an impressively creepy turn as menacing hitman Leo.

Lots of concerns here. Lucy tries to get the guardianship for Damien but the druggie mother is holding him hostage, wanting Lucy to buy her off. There is a smoking ban at the station and this leads to all kinds of trouble. J. D. Kills the python named Salome and loses a chance for a tryst. Buntz's tactics lead to the deaths of some drug dealers who have been killing people with their loaded up heroin.
