Hogan tells/asks Klink "Does Macy tell Gimbel?" when asked how a POW gets a bottle of wine. The rhetorical question "Does Macy tell Gimbel?" was a popular phrase used throughout the 1930s-1960s which meant that business competitors are not supposed to share trade secrets with one another. It comes from the rivalry between the large upscale New York department stores Macy's and Gimbels. The rivalry between the two stores as depicted in the film 'Miracle on 34th Street' was very real. The two stores were just blocks from each other and were major competitors for the same customers until Gimbel's closed its doors in 1987.
There has been speculation about whether LeBeau (Robert Clary) is married. In this episode Hogan "volunteers" him for an assignment. LeBeau comments that the same thing happened when he got married. ...
The impending probe assault is endangered by a placement of 12 "88" guns. The German 88mm cannon was the most versatile (and feared) cannon in WWII. It could blow up a tank that was 9 miles away, or shoot down a plane flying at 26,000 feet. The 8.8cm Flugabwehrkanone gave us the word Flak, which meant 'really bad stuff coming straight at us'.
LeBeau dressed as the littlest Corporal in the Nazi Army. Nobody questioned how he never fit the image of the Tall, Blue Eyed, Blonde German. (However, nobody on the show and in real life ever questioned how Hitler didn't either.)
