- While Hogan detains a German general during an Allied offensive, a Gestapo officer looks into Stalag 13's perfect escape record.
- At the start, Schultz is chasing the men into the barracks from the compound. They want to know what is going on. LeBeau looks out through the sink periscope. A German general with a bunch of medals has arrived. He seems to be an old friend of Klink's, and they hug. Kinchloe tells Hogan that a German general has arrived. The general, General Stoffle of the Africa Korps, and Klink go into Klink's office. Stoffle drinks a toast to Klink, who was two grades ahead of him in school, and now is two grades behind him. Stoffle calls Klink 'Putzi'. Klink says that he arranged a luncheon at the Officers' Club. Stoffle says that the allies would give anything to know where he is. Hogan and the men are listening in on the coffee pot. Hogan tells Kinchloe to radio London on the general's location.
They get a radio message from London back. London wants Hogan to keep the general at STALAG 13 for a while; no suggestions on how.
LeBeau looks out the sink periscope again, and sees Stoffle in the back of his staff car, supposedly sleeping. Hogan wants to bring Stoffle to the barracks, then take him down the tunnel, and take him to England for the duration. Hogan says that they need a diversion; he has Newkirk and Carter to call Schultz to the barracks. Schultz comes into the barracks. Newkirk and Carter have a guessing game with Schultz trying to guess his weight. He ultimately says 295 pounds. While they are doing this, Hogan and LeBeau go to the staff car to get the general. They open the back door, and see a fraulein in the back seat; this is the general's girlfriend. Just then, a Gestapo major comes in through the front gate in his staff car. The fraulein goes to Klink's office; Stoffle wants private quarters for them.
The Gestapo major starts to unload equipment from a truck. He shows Klink a listening device; then a large flashlight which can blind anybody at a certain range, and use the back of it to crack skulls. Hogan comes to Klink's office; he tells the Gestapo that they won't find what they are looking for - the general's girlfriend. Hogan says that the girl has been seen constantly with Himmler. Hogan tells Klink to not let the Gestapo leave early; Klink would surely be implicated. Hogan offers LeBeau to supply food and drink, and entertain them in Klink's quarters. Hogan says that they have to keep the Gestapo busy.
The Gestapo major, Major Zolle, tells two of his men to go to the warehouse. He asks Schultz about a wireless radio; Schultz has a shovel and wires. Klink is nervous; Schultz follows Zolle. Zolle uses the device to find tunnels; he thinks he finds one, and tells Schultz to dig. Schultz digs, and hits something. Zolle leans over it to take a look. Kinch and Carter are watching from beside the barracks. Kinch tells Carter to 'Fire when ready, Gridley;. Carter turns a valve, and water gushes up the 'tunnel' opening, spraying Zolle in the face and all over.
In Klink's quarters, Stoffle and his girlfriend are having a meal, with LeBeau serving. LeBeau puts pills in the general's drink, and gives the two drinks to the general and his girlfriend. Stoffle switches glasses with the girlfriend, and they drink up. She falls asleep; the intention was to have Stoffle fall asleep.
The two Gestapo guards go to a warehouse with Newkirk and Carter. The Gestapo climb up on boxes to inspect a vent, with Carter holding a light. When they get up to the vent, Carter puts the light out, walks out, and pulls a rope which is attached to the boxes. The Gestapo fall, and Newkirk and Carter take some of their equipment.
In the mean time, Zolle finds something with his device, something on the other side of the ceiling. He breaks through the wood ceiling, into the floor of the warehouse above. The Gestapo guards think that someone is escaping, so one of them hits Zolle on the head and knocks him out and down. The guard realizes that it was Zolle after he has done it.
In Klink's quarters, the girlfriend is knocked out on the sofa while the general is pacing. Hogan comes in and silently asks LeBeau what happened. LeBeau tries to explain with gestures that the glasses were switched, and she got knocked out instead of him. Hogan then comes in the room, and asks Stoffle if he is ready for lunch. Stoffle says to bring cars. Hogan tells Stoffle that Himmler is crazy about the girlfriend. Hogan convinces Stoffle to put on a prisoner uniform in order to get out of camp with the Gestapo there. LeBeau says that Stoffle is a size 44 regular.
Zolle and the other Gestapo guards go to the barracks, and he says that the holiday is over. Zolle and another Gestapo approach a prisoner and start talking to him. While he is talking to a prisoner, Hogan tells Schultz about a 'defector', in the back of Klink's car. Klink comes up and asks what is going on. Schultz opens the door, and sees Stoffle in a prisoner uniform. Zille catches the 'defector'; Stoffle insists that he is General Stoffle. Zolle takes Stoffle away. Klink turns to hogan and says that there is something diabolical about Hogan; Hogan says that he knows.
At the end, in Klink's office, Klink says that Hogan will get 30 days in the cooler. Klink says that there was a big offensive in the desert. The allies got through with Stoffle not being there. Hogan says that Klink was lucky; Stoffle would have talked Klink into being a tank commander. Hogan then tells Klink that Klink was brilliant at the way he got rid of the Gestapo. Klink gives Hogan a cigar. and a light; Hogan says 'Danke'.
