The pilot is the only episode to be broadcast in black and white.
In this pilot episode Burkhalter is only a Colonel, and not a General, as he was throughout the remaining six year run of the show.
The black and white pilot originally included a Russian character that was played by Leonid Kinskey. Kinksey did not continue with the series because he became uncomfortable with Nazi characters starring in a comedy.
In the series' debut, Colonel Klink's secretary, Helga, was also a member of Hogan's underground. She is seen (doing the nails of a prisoner, as a manicurist) in the tunnel with other POWs, on Friday September 17th, 1965.
Klink briefly speaks German to the informant and then is told by him that, as a spy, he cannot risk even thinking in German. It is one of the few times that Klink - or any of the characters - actually utters a full sentence in German.
