Colonel Hogan tells Klink that he will get LeBeau to tailor his uniform jacket for Klink's "date" with the widow; LeBeau is then seen sewing in the film negatives for the Underground. However, in Gowns by Yvette (1970), Newkirk has to sew the wedding dress for Burkhalter's niece because LeBeau "can't even sew a button on a shirt."
When Newkirk brings British commando, Sgt. Meadows, into the barracks, who had just been turned over to Stalag 13 by the SS, the sergeant pulls out a 6-inch in diameter replica of a landmine from the sling holding his wounded left arm and gives it to Colonel Hogan. it is highly unlikely, after being held by the SS, and presumably thoroughly searched and interrogated, as well as most likely being searched by the Luftwaffe guards during his in-processing into Stalag 13, he would still be in possession of it.
Title is based on the operetta 'The Merry Widow' by the Austro-Hungarian composer Franz Lehár.
