- When a British commando unit is captured before they can blow up a crucial German ammo dump, Hogan and his men attempt to finish the job.
- At the start, the prisoners are lined up in front of the barracks, and Schultz is taking roll call. Klink asks Hogan how many prisoners there are supposed to be. Hogan says 15. Klink says correction, 16. There is a new prisoner. There was a commando raid on a nearby ammunition depot, and the commandos were captured; one of the seven was sent to STALAG 13. While Klink walks down the line of prisoners talking about escaping from STALAG 13, Hogan slaps Klink on the back with a dirty hand, leaving an oil mark on Klink's uniform. Schultz says that he shouldn't do that to the Kommandant. Hogan responds that the Germans won't give them a roller towel.
Shortly later, Hogan and the new prisoner, RAF Sergeant Walters with an arm in a sling, are walking in the compound talking about the raid. They were raiding the headquarters of General Schmidt. There is going to be an offensive someplace, but they don't know where. Walters tells Hogan that they set the timers, put the other charges in place; but they were not able to finish the job. Just connect the wires. Walters talks about German General Schmidt, the commander of the ammunition depot. Walters also tells Hogan that the other commandos were sent to Kleinfeldt prison camp.
Hogan goes to Klink's office, and leads Klink on to something he knows. He tries to leave, but Klink stops him. mentions a rumor that they are closing the camp. Klink denies the rumor. They why did they only send him one commando (and one with a broken wing), and sent the others to another camp. Hogan convinces Klink to make a phone call to get the other commandos. Klink calls headquarters, wants the other 6, he will send a truck. Hogan gives Klink a scarf as a gift. Klink says that he has one just like it; it actually is his scarf that Hogan took from the coat rack, and is giving it back to him.
That night, Hogan and Carter in black commando garb go to the ammo depot in a side tarpaulin of a truck that is rolled up. Hogan finds the timer in a wine storage room, turns it on, and sets it to 20 minutes. They hear General Schmidt and a fraulein (not named in the show but appears in the credits as 'Fraulein') talking in the next room. They run out of wine, so Schmidt goes to the back room to get some more wine. Hogan sees him coming and gives a full wine bottle to Carter, telling him to do the honors. The General comes in the room, and after some near misses, Carter knocks out Schmidt. The fraulein hears a noise, and goes to the back room. Hogan grabs her and gives her a big kiss, saying auf weidersehn, making her think he is Schmidt. She can not see well as the lights in the room are off. She then picks her coat up and leaves through the front door. Before they leave, Hogan wants to take Schmidt prisoner, and take him with them while he is still unconscious. If the Germans have an American prisoner, why can't the American prisoners have a German prisoner?
The next day, a truck comes into STALAG 13 with the 6 commandos that Klink requested. Hogan and Newkirk are also in the truck, unbeknownst to the driver. Hogan comes out of the truck in a formal smoking jacket. Hogan asks Schultz how many prisoners; Schultz says 6. Hogan tells Schultz that there should be 7 prisoners, not 6. He tells Schultz at first that he is missing a prisoner; then he 'finds' the prisoner in the back of the truck. He quickly writes down the name 'Finnegan' on the prisoner list and changes the number from 6 to 7.
Hogan goes to Klink's office, Klink has the sheet of hew prisoners. Hogan looks at the list and gasps. He says that there is an escape artist on the list. At first, he does not want to say who he is, leading Klink on. Then he points to the name 'Finnegan' on the list. Just then, General Schmidt, in a prisoner's uniform, comes to Klink's office, angry that they think he is a prisoner. Hogan says that he recognizes him. Hogan silently suggests to Klink, by pointing, that Schmidt is the escape artist. Schmidt insists that he is indeed General Schmidt. Klink says that Schmidt was blown up with the ammo depot. Hogan then says that he really is General Schmidt. After some discussion, Klink calls the guard, and has him hauled out of the room. The guard pushes Schmidt out of the room backwards with his sub-machine gun.
Later, Hogan talks to Schmidt while walking in the compound. Hogan says that he believes that he is Schmidt, and insults Klink for not believing it. Hogan wants to get a message out to Schmidt's staff; Schmidt is puzzled on how he can do that. How? Bribe a guard. Schmidt, thinking that something is going on, says that he can not get a message out for 5 days. Schmidt walks off, and Newkirk comes by to talk to Hogan. Hogan says that Schmidt will not tell him anything and that Schmidt will not talk to save his life; or will he? Hogan tells Newkirk that we have a job for the Mighty Hogan Art Players.
Later, In the barracks, Hogan tells Schmidt that he recognized him from his picture; but his neck is fuller. Schmidt is playing a chess game with himself; he plays a black move, then turns the board around and plays white. Hogan asks Schmidt if his neck is always that thick. Hogan is giving him a set up for a disease he is trying to convince Schmidt that he has. Hogan says that two prisoners, Kelly and Johnson, went just like that last week, snapping his fingers. Schmidt asks Hogan what he wants. Hogan says that Germany is winning the war, and that he wants to be the burgermeister of Cleveland after the war. Schmidt says no Cleveland. Hogan says that Schmidt has symptoms, fever, burning up. As he says this, he kicks the wall, and a board with lit candles slides under the bunk that Schmidt is in. Newkirk dresses in cold weather gear and offers Schmidt hot soup. Newkirk calls for Hogan saying that Schmidt is perspiring. Hogan asks for more blankets, as Schmidt may have 'shackelitis'. Newkirk gets a blanket, and while putting it on Schmidt, other prisoners put chains on Schmidt's legs under the blanket, hiding them so Schmidt can not see them. LeBeau comes in acting fearfully, talking about the two prisoners that were lost last week, and now him. Hogan talks about chills and shakes, and hooks up the bunk to rods in the other room. Newkirk and Kinchloe move the bunk back and forth slowly with the rods, making Schmidt think he is shaking. The candles put the bedding on fire; Hogan says that Schmidt's fever is so hot it set the bedding on fire. LeBeau brings in a large box, implying that it is a coffin. Hogan says not yet, and LeBeau wheels it back out. Hogan wants Schmidt for a name to notify; Schmidt says not yet.
Hogan and Kinch are in the tunnel, with Kinch talking on the radio to London. They are preparing for the attack, but need to know where it is going to be. Hogan says that Schmidt is about to crack, and prepare for 'Operation Reindeer'. Kinch calls London, as Goldilocks calling Papa Bear.
Then, with Schmidt still in bed sweating, the men come in singing Jingles Bells like it is Christmas. Schmidt says that Christmas is 3 months away. Hogan implies that Schmidt will not last that long. Schultz comes in dressed as Santa Claus. Newkirk gives Schmidt a magazine, but Hogan says that there is no point in starting serials. Hogan and the men then sing 'Good King Wenceslas'. Schmidt then breaks, and says to send a message to Major Umbly in Heidelheim. The men start singing 'Heidelheim' to the tune of 'Frere Jacques'. Schmidt asks if the message will get through; Hogan says that the message will get through. Schmidt asks Hogan how he can thank him; Hogan says to throw in Cincinnati (referring to when he asked Schmidt to be burgermeister of Cleveland).
At the end, two prisoners to escape come up through the tunnel; they are to take the place of Walters and 'Finnegan'. Walters and Schmidt are dressed up in civilian clothes, waiting to go down the tunnel. Walters is to take Schmidt with him. They are to go to London, where Schmidt will wait out the war in a prison camp. As they go down the tunnel under the bunk, Hogan tells Schmidt to look more German and not to talk. Hogan tells Schmidt to act like a real German, which for him should be easy.
