When Kate Smith hosted the Hollywood Palace, she showed up with a small hand held Kodak box camera, carrying the camera strapped to her wrist, from the first rehearsal day. She photographed the crew and other guest performers as rehearsals progressed; always taking photographs when Kate was on stage or seated in the audience during rehearsals, orchestra and camera blocking sessions, and during the actual video taping of the dress and air show. Kate Smith had been on the show previously making solo guest appearances, never carried nor had a camera. After the show had aired, every member of the crew received their own photograph of themselves while performing their duties on the show. Along with their photograph, Kate had written a personal note of "thank you" signed by Kate Smith. Of all the performers hosting "The Hollywood Palace" Kate Smith and Joan Crawford were the only two entertainment host performers sending a special personal hand written note mailed to each individual crew member of the production company crew thanking them for their friendly helpful assistance in making their hosting a memorable experience.
