A Smashing Taylor Thanksgiving
ExplorerDS678913 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It's Thanksgiving, and you know what that means: time for the annual Christmas card photo! Jill wants it nice and simple, but Tim on the other hand, he has yet another vision when driving past the lumber yard. Then it hit him: a photo of the Taylor family at the North Pole! But before Tim can build the Santa's village mock-up, he's got introduce one of the coolest bathrooms ever constructed. See, the bathroom has since become a woman's domain, but not anymore, because Tim and co. have built the Man's Bathroom. It's got everything a man could want in a personal lavatory: stainless steel walls and floor, multi-head shower, a Laz-E-Boy reclining toilet, hell, even a refrigerator and TV. With the addition of convenient beer in the bathroom, Tim calls the place a male recycling center. Er... I guess that's Second Harvest beer they've got. So after the demonstration on Tool Time, it's TIME to take the family Christmas card photo: Brad, Randy and Mark are decked out in humiliating, yet adorable elf costumes, apparently only agreeing to it because they misunderstood Tim and thought he said they could play Elvis. Yeah, right. So, Tim has the mock-up erected in the backyard and he's dressed like a Mountie, and he's even convinced Jill to wear a low-cut skirt. So the costumed Taylors take their places by the village, the camera is set up, all goes fine...until the Binford snow machine refuses to activate. Tim gives it a kick, sending it backwards into the patio door, shattering the glass.

As if a broken door wasn't bad enough, Jill's pies were burnt to a crisp. Tim justifies his actions on the basis that he thinks big, although after a talk with Wilson, he realizes that maybe he thinks too big and misses the point. Come Thanksgiving dinner, Al and Ilene join the Taylors as they all give thanks. Al is thankful for Ilene, and visa versa, with the latter making a heartfelt, yet drawn out speech. Brad's thankful she shut up, resulting in an under the table kick; Randy's thankful it wasn't him who said that, resulting in another kick; Mark is thankful he didn't say anything (part cut in syndication), Tim is thankful for his hot rod and all his tools, but most of all, his family and his very understand wife. Jill is thankful for him too. After dinner, they gather at the mock-up out back for one more attempt at a Christmas card photo. This time, no costumes, just simple, basic and to the point. Unfortunately, though, as the saying goes, into everyone's life, a little snow must fall.

Classic episode. From the Christmas card photos to the Man's Bathroom, there are so many moments to like about this one. Now of course, if you like the Man's Bathroom, wait until Tim and Al introduce the Man's Kitchen later this season, and then there's the Man's Bedroom a few seasons later. For either Thanksgiving or Christmas, "A Frozen Moment" is ideal to watch, as it captures the spirit of both seasons. I really have nothing to criticize about this episode, because it was done so well. I recommend it! Picture perfect.
