This episode is indeed unbelievable, as you will soon discover, dear readers. So, we begin with Fool Time as Tim screws around with a remote controlled flying saucer, and then he tells Al about the prospects of virtual reality (you remember VR, right? From the '90s? Everybody thought it was going to be the next big thing?) He hands Al a pair of sunglasses and says they're virtual reality sensors, and Al believes him because he's a complete idiot in this episode. Then Grant Hill comes out, because I guess he had nothing better to do, and Al, thinking it was a virtual carbon copy of Hill, challenges him to a game of B-ball. He gets his flannel butt trounced, remarking on how real it felt. Stupid! At home, Tim pranks Wilson with his flying saucer and it freaks him out. Why, you ask? It seems old Wilson is familiar with UFOs, because he claims to have seen one when he was a boy. Not just the ship, but little bluish-green people too. Naturally, Tim thinks his claim is bogus and he makes fun of him, however he doesn't stop there. He goes inside and blabs about it to the family, and even the often open-minded Randy rules out the existence of aliens. Well, the big jerk didn't stop there either! He goes down to Harry's and gets into a discussion with Marty and Benny about extra-terrestrials. Benny hopes aliens exist so he could have a shot with another species, because this man is an obvious cartoon character. Wilson pops into the shop, and of course the idiots make fun of him. Tim even told one-note Milton, so now Wilson is a laughingstock. This seems out of character, because everybody respects Wilson. Sure I can buy Benny making fun of him, but Marty?

So, he decides to delve into this whole alien business, though still thinking it's bogus, by looking up information with Randy on the internet (still new in 1998, though unlike VR, it DID become the next big thing). They find over 100,000 web sites about UFOs, though today there are well over 300,000,000. Well, Tim has now become hooked. Maybe there IS some truth to all these sightings and documentations? Anyway, time for an X-Files parody. See, the X-Files were big at the time, so this was obviously a grab for ratings. It's boring. Cut to a pointless Tool Time sketch where they talk about roofing. Tim continues his obsession with aliens, going so far as to hint that Al may be one! Stupid! So, Tim and Wilson, who is now talking to him again apparently, discuss conspiracies and the like and... that's it. Finally, Grant Hill, still without anything better to do, talks aliens with Tim. Hilarity does not ensue.
Allow me to sum this all up in one word... HATE! This is undoubtedly one of the STUPIDEST episodes of Home Improvement, worse than "Home Alone"! The writing is atrocious, the directing is awful and the acting is pure phoned-in garbage! Where do I begin? Al is not stupid enough to believe Tim's VR ruses at the start, okay? An X-Files parody...funny when The Simpsons did it, but not here. It comes entirely out of left field and is very out of place for this show. But again, it was a ratings grab, or to remind the audience that they could be watching the real X-Files instead. I hated this horribly, painfully unfunny episode! I could have written a better script with my eyes closed. No story, no plot, just endless alien jokes! I take that back, they're not jokes, because jokes are supposed to be funny. There are no laughs present in this thing at all. The only way this could have been salvaged is that if Wilson and Al ganged up on Tim and beat his ass for the way he acted. Wait, maybe an alien actually wrote this script, it possessed Jon Vandergriff and made him write out all this garbage so it would seem like an abnormal episode to go with the whole alien theme... no, that's stupid. It's just a badly written outing with no effort at all. Please, fans, stay away from this one. It will alienate you! I'm now going to watch a GOOD Home Improvement episode to unwind from this trash.
