Al Gets the Business.
ExplorerDS678911 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Today on Tool Time, Al falls for the old 'head in the mulcher' trick, because Halloween is just around the corner. After that, it's down to Harry's Hardware, the #1 hot spot for the man who knows his tools. Benny the mooch is there, scarfing down the free donuts, and Harry has a little announcement to make: he's looking to sell 20% of his business and he's hoping Tim will accept the offer. Only $15,000. Tim Taylor the partial owner of a hardware store... that would be like Louie Anderson being partial owner of a donut shop. Of course, he wants to get approval from the little woman, so he drives all the way to Canada to get her some chocolate marshmallow pumpkins. So Jill asks what's the catch, Tim asks for the money, Jill pulls rank and refuses him. Al, on the other hand, showed an interest in investing in the hardware store, so it looks like he's got it. Al has officially become a 20% partner, and boy does he run a tight ship. Effective immediately, no more free coffee, and he tries to deny Tim buying gutters at cost, however since Harry still owns 80% of the business, his best customer gets what he wants.

It didn't stop there, however, Al even plugged his business on Tool Time, despite Harry's not even being a sponsor. Tim makes it abundantly clear that only HE can voice matters of his personal life on the show, they get into an argument, and two things are also made clear: Al is getting too carried away at being a small business owner, and Tim is being a dick because he's jealous. Anyway, on to Halloween night: Brad and Randy dressed as zombies, and Mark is Al! Complete with Harry's Hardware T-shirt underneath his flannel, and they're off to the costume contest. Mark wins, because, ironically, Al's mom was one of the judges. After that, a distressed Ilene stops over, having become fed up with Al's devotion to his new business venture. Feeling to be the only one up to the job, Tim heads over to the store for a heart to heart, just as Al sells Wilson a $40 flashlight. The two get to talking, Tim builds his confidence and Al realizes he's been overzealous, but I think he'll be able to find a balance between work and play. So Al heads off to find Ilene, despite Tim begging to let him lock up, but Al wisely refuses. However, Tim manages to finagle the key to the hardware store anyway. So I guess it worked out for everyone.

So even though Tim and Al are different people, personality wise, when they set out to do something and get carried away, they can both cause a world of trouble. I'm wondering what would've happened if the shoe were on the other foot and Tim became the 20% partner. Don't know if he would've been as big of a control-freak as Al, but then you never know. If there is a lesson to be learned here, it's don't be afraid to take risks and don't let yourself get carried away if you succeed in business without really trying. Also, viewers are treated to their first look at Wilson without his face covered...well, he's wearing skull make-up, but you can still make him out. So check out Borland Ambition and watch as Al takes the hardware business head-on.
