After the show finished, Tim Allen later admitted he had momentarily lost control of the bobcat driving in the dry ice scene. He wasn't sure as it was happening that he wasn't going to turn over.
On this episode, Tim calls the woodpecker Woody and refers to Walter Lance, the creator of Woody Woodpecker. Also, Woody is Tim Allen's character "Buzz Lightyear's" animated buddy three years later in Toy Story.
The Binford "Blastmaster" Tim uses to scare away the woodpecker is the same thing he used to blow up the dishwasher in the pilot episode.
The title is from the musical "Bye Bye Birdie." The original Broadway production of "Bye Bye Birdie" opened at the Martin Beck Theater on April 14, 1960, ran for 607 performances, and won the 1961 Tony Award for the Best Musical.
