A rather odd morning is experienced at the Taylor house, as not only does Randy think he has a girl's hands, but Tim discovers that Jill's car has had the oil light on for days, and now it's inoperable. He becomes extremely agitated at his wife for not knowing how to properly maintain her car. She acts like it's no big deal, but to Tim Taylor, ANY car related problem is a BIG problem. He stews about it well into Tool Time, so he finally decides to silence his inner demons and project his feelings onto the audience, telling about a "friend" whose wife didn't notice the oil light was on and complains about her lack of respect. One man, Jim, agrees with Tim, who invites him up on stage. He complains about his own wife who shows no respect for his tools (any of them), and then a second man, a portly gentleman named Kyle, shares his feelings and is also invited on stage. Jim and Kyle complain about their wives' annoying little habits, and Tim joins right in, saying his wife drools in her sleep. Al attempts to intervene saying the show is running short of time, and that he fails to see the importance of their drool conversation, and the Tool Jerk tells him he wouldn't know since he isn't married, which sort of hit below the tool belt.
At home, the boys come home from school and want to watch Tool Time. They are the appropriate audience for the show anyway. As luck would have it, they tune in right to the part where Tim, Jim and Kyle are complaining about their wives. Tim's drool comment about Jill comes in loud and clear. She goes out to the garage to chastise him for disclosing such embarrassing information in public, and he shoots back about her and the oil light. He shows no remorse for his actions, because he seems to think he did nothing wrong. A few hours later, he tries to apologize, but ends up letting her know that he also mentioned the oil light on the show. Instead of doghouse, they should start calling it the Tim-house.. He goes outside to talk to Wilson about what happened, and he attributes the problem to a man's need to outdo other men, he got caught up in the friendly spirit of competition. Wilson also suggests that men should share their feelings instead, so on the next Tool Time, with Jim and Kyle back, and he proposes that they should share their true feelings about their wives. Jim feels confused, and then hungry, and Kyle feels hungry, as well as anger that his doctor told him not to eat any pork. Al decided to get in on this little tool group therapy session and he shares his feelings about what Tim said to him the other day. He took it the wrong way, making it seem like Al was desperate, and he actually bursts into tears right then and there. After that big of awkwardness, Tim finally manages to fix Jill's Nomad, making it purr like a kitten once again. He only had to rebuild the entire engine. He's also realized the error of his ways and offers a heartfelt apology to Jill, in his own way. So he's made amends with one person he's hurt, so now it was time for the other. Tim meets Al down at Tool Time and he apologizes in his own way, and Al accepts, also in his own way. Tim assures him he'll meet the right woman someday, but secretly doubts it. And Al is secretly pining for when he'll get his own show.
So, Tim discloses personal information about Jill on Tool Time for the first time, and he was totally wrong for doing so. It was in his nature to obsess over something like an oil light, which of course lead to ruining the entire car, and his frustrations over that were understandable. And of course when he's around other guys, he doesn't think before he talks. This certainly won't be the last time he shows off this trait. It's also at this point that Tim and Al aren't really close friends, as they still seem to barely tolerate one another, but they do eventually become closer and change like real people. I would recommend that Home Improvement fans should check this episode out. Maybe you can relate to Tim, Jim and Kyle and are frustrated with your partner, or you can relate to Al and are pining for a partner. Nothing More Than Feelings is truly something we all need. And remember, when that oil light comes on, get it checked out!
