Habitat for Humanity has come to Detroit, and building a house for them will be Tim and Al, as well as some big names in the world of sports. When Jill hears, she wants to help, but Tim tries to make up excuses as to why husbands and wives shouldn't work together. Is that the case, or is that he doesn't want a woman on his team? Actually, it's a little of both, and we all fondly remember each and every time Tim and Jill got into competition with each other, Jill always seemed to come out on top. But even before they begin building the houses, I think we can already predict who will have a leg up in the competition. On Tim's team, then-World Heavyweight Champion Evader Holyfield, John Elway, Kelvin Pritchett, Kenny O'Brien, and other big names from the NFL, while on Al's team, there's Jill, the then-reigning Miss America, and some other gals, all with experience in household repairs. While on the surface, this seems like a battle of the sexes, but at its core, it's all a competition of spirit, know-how and most of all, teamwork. The latter was severely lacking on Tim's team. Construction on Tim's house is off to a shaky start when several team members are late, and the guys prove to be very clumsy and incompetent, moreso than their team captain, when it comes to hanging walls and installing windows. Al and Jill's team, on the other hand, are slightly ahead.
While all of this was going on, Brad finds a locket in the alley near the house. Instead of reporting it, he decides to give it to his girlfriend, Ashley. I'm sure it's perfectly alright, I mean it's not like that locket actually belonged to somebody they know...oh, damn, here comes Marie, claiming she had lost her locket, given to her by her grandmother. Now what? Tim advises him to fess up and tell the truth, which he finds is easier said than done. He's eventually found out when Marie comes back, asking to borrow a staple gun and she sees Ashley with the locket. Looks like Brad's gonna pay. Meanwhile, Tim returns to the job site, having bought a state of the art exhaust fan for their house, while Al and Jill are still ahead, and they've even got Wilson building the fence. Well, finally, the houses were finished and ready to be inspected. The inspector commends Al and Jill for their house, saying it was perfect, but now onto Tim's "more perfect" house. Yeah, it's got it all: loose doorknobs, pipes that don't work, and a fan that will suck the hat right off your head. I think it's obvious who built the better house, and this was confirmed by former president Jimmy Carter via video tape. He states in no uncertain terms that crews are working round the clock to repair the house Tim built, and Rosie requests a picture of Al. In disgust, Tim wants to tape over it. So is the moral of our story that girls work better together than guys? Hell, no. It's girls who know what they're doing work better than guys who don't know what their doing, and visa versa.
One of the best episodes of the series, as well as funniest. Who could not enjoy that last scene where they take a tour of Tim's house, exposing all the cracks. The whole thing was shot very well, I give the director and cinematographers a lot of credit. The acting is great too and it's a good story about how overconfidence will always lose to teamwork. As for our B plot with Brad and the locket, while brief, is something most of us can relate to. Finders keepers, and such. Also, we get to meet his latest girlfriend, Ashley. It's too bad Leigh Ann Orsi didn't have a longer show career, or at least stayed with this show longer. Ashley also didn't seem like the type who would tolerate Brad's crap. So anyway, if you like construction, building houses, and Tim getting told off by a former president, "Eve of Construction" is for you!
