The Eyes Have It.

Warning: Spoilers
Tim and Al do a Tool Time salute to the unsung heroes of the job site, today of course the workers of a lunch wagon, with the fastest short-order cook in the business. However, Tim thinks he can do it faster (just ask Jill), but he ends up making a huge mess. After that, Bud pays Tim a visit and offers to sell him some Pistons season tickets, best seats in the house. Now there's an offer no man could refuse, but of course, it came at a hefty price: $4,000. Naturally, Bud didn't give him but a minute to make a decision, so Tim accepted the offer. He holds that in their marriage, they don't need to talk over every big decision...Jill begs to differ, however, as she wants to talk over getting Mark contact lenses with Tim before making the decision. As expected, Jill was steamed when she heard of Tim's extravagant purchase and gives him "the look", whenever a wife gives that to their husband, he dies a little inside.

So Tim goes down to the hardware store where Harry, Al, Marty and Benny treat him like a celebrity, trying to suck up to him in order to get some tickets. He tells them he may not keep them, due to Jill's reaction. They all understood about the look, even Al, though unmarried, gets it when he's snippy with Mother. Harry tells Tim he needs to stand firm and man up to his wife, and right on cue, in comes Dolores to nag Harry about leaving his mother in-law at the podiatrist and orders him to go get her, but when he refuses...here comes the look! Tim and Marty duck just in time, but Al and Benny become mesmerized, and so now all three guys are heading down to the podiatrist. At home, Jill makes a half-assed attempt at a compromise by suggesting Tim keep tickets for five games and sell off the rest. Tim didn't attempt a counteroffer, saying it was all or nothing. After talking to Wilson, however, the Tool Man does decide to try a compromise and ends up giving away a good chunk of the tickets to his pals, and he's allowed to keep 8. Wow, great compromise. Not! But at least Tim won't be in the doghouse anymore...until the next episode.

This one's a classic! That scene in the hardware store where Harry, Benny and Al fall for "the look" is priceless, and it's even played again during the credits for good measure. Non-stop hilarity, though of course they have to once again make Tim look like the bad guy because he did something Jill didn't like. Sure, it was an extravagant purchase, but he literally had to make an on-the-spot decision, naturally he wasn't going to pass on an offer like that. And I think a more reasonable compromise would have been Tim keeping at least half. How is 8 out of 40 fair? If nothing else, this episode teaches us a very important lesson: don't get married.

One of the Best in the Series

My wife and I convulsed in laughter the first time we saw this episode of HI. The looks on Bennie's and Al's faces when Delores unleashes "The Look" are priceless, as is Tim's remark to his brother "Good thing we looked away when we did, Marty!" If I know this one's in the evening rerun hopper, you can be sure we're watching it.
