Tim's gonna be a teacher. Unfortunately, the classes in belching, grunting and blowing things up were already taken, but there's always a mechanics class. A community college wants Tim to teach a 12-week automotive course, because...uh... who knows? Well, at least Tim will be fulfilling one of his lifelong dreams of teaching auto shop. Let's see how long it takes before the teacher gets sent to the office. The first day of class takes off without a hitch, and only one spitwad was launched. Tim starts off with a lecture on the history of combustion engines, but the rest of the class wants to forgo boring lectures and get their hands dirty. It seemed a little uncharacteristic of Tim to want to follow the curriculum, but then he realized that HE will be providing the tests, so they commence to getting under the hood. When Professor Taylor gets home, he has a newfound love for the educational system and it makes him feel youthful again. However, this may not sit well with his poker buddies at the game that night. All Harry, Al, Wilson and Benny talk about is old-age problems, seeing the glass as half empty, but Tim sees it half full. The next day, he tests his students' knowledge of what the coolest car of all time is, and then they invite him to go get pizza with them. They see Tim as more than a teacher. They think he's cool.
So, Tim goes out with the kids, eats his weight in pizza and comes home with three of the boys, Billy, Brent and Grant, at midnight. He shows them his cherry Nomad, revving the engine for their viewing pleasure. While they think it's impressive, but Brent bets his Firebird could beat it. Time for a drag race! But before they can commence on their first field trip, a groggy Jill enters the garage, wondering what in the palmetto blue hell was going on. Tim tells her less-than-subtly that he's going drag racing with his students, and although Jill reminds him that he's an old man who has work tomorrow, he goes out regardless. Hey, he feels alive, damn it. What's the harm in living it up? Yolo and all that. So now, it's on to Fool Time where Tim, Al and ungrudging plumber Felix Myman are going to clear a nasty sink drain clog. Felix uses an old school snake, but since Tim is more familiar with new-school, he wants to use compressed air. Felix advises against that, due to the aged pipes, but Tim goes with a 300psi compressor anyway, because even though he has the body of a 43 year old, his brain is 17. So as predicted, the pipes get ready to burst. Felix and Al retreat, leaving Tim to sleep in the water bed he'd just made. So after he gets out of the hospital, Tim sets forth plans to invite Brent and Grant over to the house with their girlfriends for a friendly powwow, and to check out his hot rod. Jill even baked a delicious chocolate cake for the occasion. Well, the once polite, cordial lads Tim knew from class, quickly become obnoxious, rude, repulsive, repugnant cretins, and we get a very clear view of how our country has a sad future ahead of it. For instance, Grant and his girl are gonna play hooky for her birthday and get her a nose ring. Well, Brent got his girl a bellybutton ring. While Jill tries to enlighten them of her current college venture, the jerkoffs wants to go to a kegger. They invite Tim and Jill, who rightfully refuse. And to add insult to injury, they literally take the cake. After they go, Tim and Jill reflect on how those students were real crapheads and then recall their own days at college, and find they are both satisfied with their ages.
This one sure can make you think. Take a nice, hard look at today's youth, and then look back on your own. You know, I wonder what Brent, Grant and the guys would be like today. They'd be pushing forty, probably have a bunch of kids out of wedlock, and probably living off entitlements, and their own kids would be college age and be smarmy little punks too, except with cell phones, iPads and Twitter accounts. I'm not saying ALL college-age kids are like this, but many are. But anyway, if you want to see Tim as a teacher and want to see him try to relive his youth through a bunch of obnoxious youths, then I guess I'd recommend this episode. Other than that, it's nothing really special. The jokes aren't very funny, and I found Tim's behavior throughout was just obnoxious, probably because he wanted to act like his students.
