Brad Works Hard for the Money
ExplorerDS678915 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
So after yet another Tool Time project goes pear-shaped, Tim and Al decide to dip into the old Male bag. One letter is from someone calling themselves Flummoxed in Fenway. This individual says he's about to become a licensed driver and he feels he's entitled to his own car, an "educational tool" as he calls it. Tim sees right through the disguise, knowing full well the letter is from Brad, and so he addresses him, right through the camera, by saying if he wants a car, he has to get a job to pay for it. So Brad heads over to the mall for a job interview at the Wiener Barn, but since he arrived early, he decides to check out the snowboards at the sporting goods store. He meets the proprietor, Rob, a very out-going and worldly young man. So as Rob goes to help out a hot chick looking at a bike, Brad runs into Wilson, who takes a keen interest in the roller-blades. The boy seems to know his stuff when it comes to skates, and then he tells Wilson they're cheaper at another store. Rob overheard the conversation, and in light of this, offers Brad a job! He's a workin' man now, and what does a workin' man need plenty of? Coffee. But maybe with not so much sugar.

Brad's first day on the job goes quite smoothly, despite having no help at all from his co-worker, and Rob's sister, Holly, a real space cadet. Needless to say, he fit like a glove. Unfortunately, this new job soon began to interfere with his home life, he twice had to blow off Tim in favor of doing something for Rob. First it was block sanding the hot rod, and then he had to cancel their lunch date, so Tim went to eat his main vice: Polish food. He also mentions how he feels this job is taking over Brad's life, and he might be right. The next night, he blows off Angela in favor of doing shoe inventory. He's hoping it'll bring up the old paycheck, and then he asks what Tim is pulling down, ballpark. Tim's response is that if Brad asks him again, he'll be out of the ballpark. But worse comes to worse when, on the day he was supposed to take his PSAT tests, he was spotted at the sporting goods store. Tim and Jill quickly get on the horn and chastise him for missing the test. Brad then hangs up on his parents to deal with a customer. So, Tim shoots down to the store and, after getting the business end of a massage chair, he meets Rob. Basically, he didn't know anything about Brad's PSATs and it seems there are few aspects of Rob's back-story undisclosed to his employee, such as cleaning the bathrooms at a Polish restaurant. So from then on, Brad promises to retake the test and make a little more time for family, especially the hot rod. We end on Wilson building himself a half-pipe in his backyard and trying out his new roller-blades. He even got himself a skating double for the occasion.

I'll bet a lot of you wish your first job was like Brad's, not to mention you probably wish you had a boss like Rob. Unfortunately not a lot of us are as fortunate, mainly because our lives are not scripted sitcoms. This episode was pretty good for what it's worth. Good message about making sure to prioritize and remind yourself just where you are in life, because sometimes you can forget. So check out "Workin' Man Blues", which by the way, is thankfully the last appearance of Jason. He shows up briefly to hit on Holly, and even though she rejects him, I still think the two would be perfect for each other: two obnoxious nitwits nobody in their right mind would want to be around. A perfect match. Anyway, check this one out.
