A Bit Syrupy
Hitchcoc17 September 2017
Just about every one of these episodes has Ralph go into one of his rages. Obviously, he would never hit Alice, but he does threaten her all the time. In this one, a telegram arrives, announcing the arrival of Alice's mother (at least it seems that way). Ralph goes ballistic to the point where Alice sends him upstairs to stay with the Norton's. Ed and Trixie end up at odds and Ralph must fact time with a woman he despises. Of course, there is an interesting twist at the end. It's an average episode. One of the bits I love is when Ralph has embarrassed himself and mouths words behind Alice's back. His facial expressions are great.

How Do You Spell "Gnat"
dougdoepke6 March 2017
Guess what! Ralph's mother-in-law is coming to visit. So how do you spell "conniption fit". Ralph has one since Alice's mom is inclined to stay for more than a day or even a week. Speaking of spelling, Ed's doing a crossword trying to spell the word "gnat". You can imagine the results. And catch the Norton's flat— heck it's even decorated. Note the timely references to Disneyland and TV's 64-Thousand Dollar Question. Both came along in the summer of '55 and created a stir reflected here. Plus, Alice's comparisons of Disneyland to the Kramden flat's a hoot. All in all, it's a solid series entry except for the ending. That strikes me as something of an over-reaction to the humorous mother-in-law jests. See if you agree.
