Three former top-billed stars of cult television series appeared in this evening's episode: Robert Vaughn (Napoleon Solo on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964)), Ron Ely (title star of both Tarzan (1966) and Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze (1975)), and in a smaller role, Craig Littler (title star of Jason of Star Command (1978)). As a bonus, two veteran guest stars of Star Trek (1966) appeared in the supporting cast: David Opatoshu and Joseph Ruskin.
Dick Van Patten's character of Herbert Pitts was possibly an homage to prolific character actor Pitt Herbert (1914-89), whose lengthy acting career came to a close in 1983.
Fans who fondly remembered the 1977-81 series Eight Is Enough (1977) were delighted with the Wednesday, October 19, 1983 ABC primetime lineup. First, Grant Goodeve, who had played David Bradford, appeared in his recurring role of Chris Deegan on The Note (1983). That show was immediately followed by Hotel, guest starring erstwhile Bradford patriarch Dick Van Patten as the hapless Herbert Pitts.
