Without a doubt, the best episode of House
james_corck312 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
From the memorable quotes to the amazing performance, this is the real pusher for the beginning of the season. House finds finally a counter part to hi way of see the world in this little brave girl that has no shame and a lot of heart. Funny and dramatic in both sides, this episode is described in one adjective: Balanced.

From the moment where Chase confesses he had kissed the girl (a very funny one and great for Jesse Spencer's performance) to when the girl is informed by House of what's going to happen in the autopsy.

And the quotes are memorable. "Is it illegal to make an autopsy to a living person?" or "She is a rock!" are marvelous. Memorable to the end.

I never miss this episode when it reruns - it's that good

Warning: Spoilers
There are DEFINITELY spoilers - DO NOT READ if you do not want to know what the key points are in the plot. This review points out *why* this episode has stood the test of time in the series - this is being written mid-S7.

House is at his thorny best both sarcastically and medically. The POTW (Andie) is a young cancer patient of Wilson's, who comes in with unusual symptoms - and unusual bravery in the face of eventual certain death from cancer. However, her current symptoms don't fit her cancer progression. What truly intrigues House with this case is Andie's bravery. He refuses to believe a nine-year-old girl can truly be brave, and insists that it is simply a symptom of her current medical crisis.

Andie (played beautifully by Sasha Pieterse) shows from the beginning of the episode how well she is able to face her cancer - singing "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera in front of her mirror, when she goes into a seizure, which brings her back to Princeton-Plainsboro. While she is going through testing, the writers use her talent well to show an unusual, interesting ethical dilemma - Andie asks Chase for a kiss, since she's convinced she will probably die before she has the chance for one. Chase chooses to give her one; something he obviously pays for once it is revealed during a differential.

House also comes up with one of the most interesting/unusual medical procedures in the entire series (extremely risky, of course), and the combination of humor and snarkiness during the rehearsal of the procedure is great.

Cuddy is not in the episode as much as I would have liked, but her banter with House is always wonderful.

The music in this episode is part of how memorable this episode is. As Andie recovers after House puts her through this risky experimental procedure, "In The Deep" (Bird York) plays as scenes flash: House thinking about the case, Foreman telling the neurosurgeon where to look despite his doubts and finding the problem, Andie's mother smiling and crying as Andie wakes up, Wilson informing House that the blood clot was not responsible for her bravery, Andie leaving the hospital and saying goodbye to the staff - even giving House a hug.

With both Wilson and Andie's comments in House's head that he should start living life - Andie suggesting he go outside for a walk, Wilson saying that Andie enjoys life more than House does - he walks towards a motorcycle shop, with "Beautiful" playing in his iPod at the end of the episode - only this time, it's Elvis Costello singing. House decides to test drive one, wandering along a beautiful rural setting, with the lyrics fading out as he fades off-screen.

All of these elements weave together beautifully. It's why this episode stands out after all this time.

Yeah yeah... it's a good House episode...

What an underestimation in a short header line! I like House a lot but sometimes it gets to be a bit tedious.

This episode would have gotten a best picture Oscar if it were a full length movie... The nine year old girl would have received a best actress award, and as I think about it, she should have received a Golden Globe.

The episode in some ways might have been better saved for a season ending, or even a series ending episode!

It is that good!!!

You gain an amazing insight to House's humanity which he still manages to hide from his co-workers, but them only!

Then you are treated (not sure if 'treated' is the right word here) to a little nine year old girl who acts so far above her years, it is borderline cheating!

Easily the best episode I've ever seen and it is very moving in so many 'spot on' ways!

Just look at it and judge for yourselves. I think you'll agree.

Usually I don't write a review. But I came here to write the review for this episode because it made me cry. This is one of the best episode of the TV world hands down. Everyone acted so we'll. And the nail biting procedure to find the clot. Wow.

The BEST TV show and episode ever!
pdonahuefla6 July 2014
I was turned on to HOUSE by some very dear friends and I have to say its breathtaking television. House is so much me and I could only imagine being this so well aware, my destiny will be written and revealed in time as all of ours will be... This episode, however, is the icing on a beYOUtiful cake of what every man, woman, and child is made of and what he or she can achieve here on planet Earth.

If this one show doesn't make you see the light of HOPE at the end of a very dark tunnel, nothing will! It's fascinating to see all the characters express their truth on so many different human levels of feeling and to see that the greatest truth to becoming a spiritual being is just in acknowledging it.

We are all here to teach each other. We are all MASTERS and we are all STUDENTS.

So, the question is. Will you be BRAVE enough to face your TRUTH, your DESTINY when the time comes to AUTOPSIED? I AM!

A tough episode to watch
xredgarnetx26 August 2006
House encounters a 9-year-old cancer victim who has other things going wrong. Even if he finds out what else is wrong with her, and fixes it, she still only has a short time to live. A gripping episode, and tough to watch. A procedure performed near the end, entailing the momentary exsanguination of the girl in order to track down a mysterious object, may very well be a real procedure but it is hair-raising to sit through. I would not recommend this episode for nonadults. In an amusing bit, Dr. Chase becomes the girl's object of adoration. The ending is quite touching. And House is more irritable and argumentative than ever.

Chase kisses a child and...
keepingupwith430 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I want to love this episode. It tugs at the heart like many House episodes, the music is amazing, and well, House is as obnoxiously correct as usual.

BUT... Is it just me or is it co pretty creepy that Dr. Chase actually kissed on the mouth a 9 year old child?

I mean, I get it. She was dying and it's very much like in Little Women when Amy has Laurie promise to kiss her before she dies...but not really cuz Laurie didn't actually kiss Amy until she was legal!

Maybe it was "more acceptable".... I can't really write back then cuz it was not that long ago.

So, it would have a nice 10, but loses 5 for kinda of assaulting a vhild🤷‍♀️.
