Loco (Barbara Eden) arrives home with aspiring playwright William Paxton (M*A*S*H producer Burt Metcalfe). The eccentric man is inspired by the clanging sound of workers fixing pipes to begin writing an allegorical play "Time Is a River" in their penthouse. Needing money to produce the play, the ladies hold an audition where potential wealthy backers can see William's play. Everyone leaves early feeling the play is too 'out there'. Greta (Lori Nelson) uses reverse psychology on her television station boss Mr. Tompkins (Booth Colman) to go through his executive producer (William Roerick) to find a sponsor (Ted Stanhope). William insists nothing be cut out of his play, but it runs two hours and must be fit into 30 minutes, and the ladies try to keep it from him.
