In an early scene when the agents are at the American Consulate, at the end of the meeting with Bentley Reed, he says "You'll need some cumshaw money" as he removes an envelope from his desk to give to Scott. Cumshaw is an English interpretation of two separate words (kam sia) from a Chinese dialect that mean "Grateful Thanks". Nearly 60 years after this episode, cumshaw usually means "a tip" (for good service) or a small gift. The meaning in this episode, as used by 'tourist' Americans in China, is an earlier usage which almost literally means "bribe".
About 20 minutes into this episode there is a Hong Kong street festival and we see a brief shot of children in blue and red doing some acrobatics. These are the Seven Little Fortunes that studied at the China Drama Academy. They all adopted their teacher's name of Yuen. In this shot are: Yuen Lo (Jackie Chan), Yuen Miu, Yuen Tai, Yuen Wah, Yuen Lung (Sammo Hung), and Yuen Qiu. Forty years later Qiu and Wah co-starred in Kung Fu Hustle as the Landlady and Landlord.
