This was supposed to be a red letter day for Sparta as Councilmember Denise Nicholas organizes an event honoring Deborah Duke who was the first black person to register to vote.

This isn't a unanimous project especially since the white supremacist city clerk at the time Wallace Merck is still around to stir things up. He also has a son in Scott Gaither eager to please dad.

It ends tragically though the tragedy was unexpected. Guest stars really own this episode.
