The role of the church
bkoganbing14 October 2020
Carroll O'Connor and his ward Chris Lobhan are at a produce market when they see Francesco Quinn escape from a county road gang. Where he eventually winds up is at a monastery run by Cesare Danova an old friend of Chief Gillespie and his late wife.

Father Danova when he learns that the only crime this man is guilty of is beig an illegal alien. Maybe in some of our cities who have designated themselves as sanctuary cities he might even have be applauded. But this is Mississippi and there ain't no such thing.

The priest feels this deeply, he sheltered Jews from Nazis in wartime Italy. Quinn is looking for asylum from El Salvador.

O'Connor refuses to help the sheriff's office and earns the enmity of his long his long time friend Sheriff Ron Culbreth.

In the end Danova, O'Connor, and Howard Rollins are arrested and have to stand trial for all kinds of charges.
