A Good Jan Episode for Season 3
kgraovac9 November 2023
A wealthy woman dining at Above the Top turns out to be Jan's old frenemy from high school.

This is the best Jan episode we've had in a long time -- the ones with Richie are usually dull. Jan's dilemma is heightened by sitcom writing but it's still relatable: lying to Deedee to appear more successful versus accepting her life as it is.

It's fun to see Jan pass herself off as a rich customer and Nancy enjoying Jan's uneasiness as she digs herself deeper: "It's like watching a fly drown in a cup of coffee". Barrie looks more petite than usual in the smart black jacket/skirt combo.

Jennifer Salt (SOAP) makes her second appearance on the series. This dignified part is totally opposite from the bitter drunk sister-of-the-bride role she played in Season 2's "The Wedding".

Nancy refers to NBC being a "rival network". Funny, because at this point IT'S A LIVING was an off-network show.

In one of the lounge scenes, we briefly see Dot in her slip. This is as risqué as the wardrobe has been up to this point.

Cassie is seen jitterbugging in the background when Sonny sings "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy".

There is a unique shot of the waitresses counting their tips at the bar. We have never seen them sitting there before.

The current version is missing a small scene around 17:30 where Sonny sings "How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You".

This episode almost has a very Season 1-2 vibe to it. It's a great Jan episode and above average for Season 3.
