MAMA'S FAMILY did a comic riff on 1940s film noir and THE GOLDEN GIRLS did a murder mystery episode but IT'S A LIVING did both of those first in this offering.
The Whodunnit Society is hosting a murder mystery in the restaurant and some of the staff have agreed to participate. Dot is delighted to be cast as a "cheap floozy." Gail Edwards really nails the Forties vibe and in period costume she looks uncannily like Ann Blyth (MILDRED PIERCE).
Ginger does a Mae West imitation. It's easy to imagine Cassie doing this as Ann Jillian actually played her in a TV Movie that aired in May 1982, just before MAKING A LIVING was canceled.
But the MVP here is Clayton Landey as "Sam" whose narration gives the whole episode its ambience.
