Embarrassing

A fellow student from Dot's acting class threatens to jump out the window unless she performs a Shakespearean scene with him; Cassie is audited by an IRS man dining at Above the Top; Nancy hopes to impress a restaurant critic.

Well, what do we have here? Another "crisis" episode in Season 3. This has to be the weirdest one of all. How did the writers think this would make a good story? A disturbed, twitchy guy will commit suicide unless Dot acts as his scene partner? Many sitcoms have done episodes like this, with a main character talking a poor, depressed sad sack down from a ledge, but this is just dumb.

Not even Gail Edwards can save this one. The only bright spot is when Sonny sings "Jambalaya" after the critic says he despises Cajun food, and when Nancy tries to pass the whole incident off as dinner theatre.

Episodes like this are what give the show a bad reputation among TV snobs, who group it in with other cheap, tacky '80s shows like SMALL WONDER or SHE'S THE SHERIFF.

One of the worst episodes of the season, and the series as a whole.
