One scene in a ward aboard the hospital ship shows a document on the chart of a patient. That paper states the social-security account number of the subject patient. During WW2 paperwork for members of the US Navy did not show the social-security numbers; instead such papers showed "file" numbers for officers and "service" numbers for enlisted members. The Navy did not begin to use the social-security numbers as universal identifiers until sometime in the 1970s.
