Much dialogue here concerns the real USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23), the third and last member of the Seawolf class, commissioned in 2005 and still in service. SSN-23 is about 100 feet longer than either of her two sisters in the class, due to the presence of an additional section amidships, to provide space for equipment for increased multi-mission capabilities. She has advanced features which enable her to conduct highly classified operations in hostile locations and to remain undetected while doing so.
