Hollywood never gets this right, never. In order to be promoted in the military there is such a thing as a TIG (Time In Grade) requirement. This requirement mandates that a person has to spend a set amount of time in a pay grade before they begin the process to be promoted. In order to be promoted to Petty Officer First Class (E-6) takes time. Their is a set amount of time depending on your rating (Specialty) then how many people are on the promotion list for your rating. Coates walking around without a hash mark is totally ridiculous, it can never happen. She also changed her specialty. When a person does this it takes time to get familiar and proficient in the new specialty. Where is Coates hash mark? Said it before and I'm saying it again, this series is a joke.

Hollywood never gets this right, never. Be it police officer, lawyer, or close relative of one of these, _everyone_ talks to the police. Am I the only person that has heard the Miranda warning (well at least the TV version) a gazillion times? So I'm just gobsmacked when those employed in the legal system belligerently confront police detective with protestations of innocence and incessant blabbing in "interview" rooms.
Here's the skinny.
"I wish to exercise my Constitutional right to not testify against myself and respectfully request you cease questioning me until I have legal representation from an attorney. Any answers I give until then will only be in response to those required to maintain my health and safety, and in no way, shape or fashion should be construed as bring in connection to the event under investigation."
