Jany Wyman shines in this flat story about a woman abandoned by her fiance; a scheme which the audience has nothing to care about at all. But Jane Wyman saves the boat, and the atmosphere contributes to the job too. Gene Barry is overshadowed by his female costar play, but he is also not used to this kind of role, which remains very surprising for him. So, you know now that you deal here with something else than a comedy but a drama with a bit of crime element. The second half is however better than the first. Good suspense. And also an end that you don't expect at all.
