The oasis referred to in this episode -El Khabir -is probably derived from the Gilf Kebir (or Gilf al-Kebir), an extremely dry desert plateau in the southwest corner of Egypt; this may explain the discussion about 'borders' in the episode since it is near the borders of both Libya and Sudan. There is no oasis there and it is over 300 miles from the Nile Valley and over 400 miles from Giza. There are no pharaonic remains in this area, but it contains an abundance of rock art which dates to ca. 6100-4800 BC (well before the pharaonic era).
