After All This Time
Prismark1026 October 2022
Written by John Sullivan who was about to reach his creative pique. You just knew this was special when the first episode was broadcast.

When watching Citizen Smith and Only Fools and Horses. You can notice Sullivan's style of comedy. There was a common thread between Wolfie and Del Boy.

With Just Good Friends, Sullivan was stretching himself. One of the main leads being a female.

Even the casting was a risk. Lead actor Paul Nicholas was better known to me as a pop singer and a musical actor. He was a natural here as the wisecracking Vince.

Jan Francis as Penny who got jilted by Vince five years earlier, easily matches him.

The two meet one evening in the pub. Both are here with other people. Penny with a bore. Vince with a nymphomaniac with a psychotic boyfriend.

They both get together and discuss old times. For Penny being left on her own at church and the humiliation.

It is a terrific opener. Sullivan peppers it with jokes courtesy of Vince. While the characters and their situation are established.

Even after all these years, there is a spark between the two characters. You also had to wait until the end credits for another gag. Did Penny not realize how many Red Lions are there in London.
