"Justice League" A Better World: Part II (TV Episode 2003) Poster

Kevin Conroy: Batman, Bruce Wayne, Lord Batman

Quotes

  • Lord Batman : Think about it - a world where there's no crime, no victims, no pain.

Batman : And no choice. Who elected you, anyway?

Lord Batman : Who elected *you*? The problem with democracy is, it doesn't keep you very safe.

Batman : It has other virtues. But you seem to have forgotten them.

Lord Batman : *I* didn't forget! I just chose peace and security instead.

    Batman : You grabbed power!

[Batman appears behind his Lord self, and raises a Batarang]

Lord Batman : And with that power, we've made a world where no eight-year-old boy will ever lose his parents because of some punk with a gun!

[Silence. The batarang drops to the ground, and Lord Batman spins around, seeing Batman there, hands lowered]

    Batman : You win.

  • Batman : [having just witnessed a man arrested for complaining about poor restaurant service and an attempt to cheat on his bill]  They'd love it here, don't you think?

    Lord Batman : Who?

Batman : Mom and Dad. They'd be *so* proud of you.

Lord Batman : [turning to scowl at the stoplight]  Just drive.

  • The Flash : So, without your Flash, the Justice Lords went rogue?

Lord Batman : It wasn't quite that simple.

The Flash : Hey, he was the conscience of your group, and that means I must be...

Green Lantern : Come on, Jiminy.

  • Lord Batman : What're ya hiding for?

Batman : I do my best work in the dark.

Lord Batman : I used to think that, too. But what have you ever accomplished from there? Besides from scaring a few punks half to death and putting a few more in jail?

Batman : It all adds up.

Lord Batman : Not fast enough. If you really want to make a difference, if you want to change the system instead of just patching it, you can't be subtle. You've got to step into the sunlight. Take over, like we did.

  • Batman : [speaking of the Justice Lords]  They're as strong as we are, and just as smart. But they're willing to kill.

Superman : What're you saying? That we have to be willing to kill too? I *won't* cross that line!

Batman : How else can we stop them?

Superman : You're the smart one. You figure it out.

Batman : We can't do it! Not unless we cross some kind of line.

  • Batman : How'd you get out?

The Flash : I sped up my heartbeat 'til it looked like it flatlined.

Batman : I didn't know you could do that.

The Flash : Neither did I. But I had to come with *some*thing if *you* weren't going to.

Batman : I couldn't. Not with him anticipating everything I could ever think of. But who could anticipate you?

  • The Flash : What are you looking at, huh?

Lord Batman : Calm down. You'll appreciate this someday.

The Flash : Yeah? I don't think Hawkgirl is gonna appreciate it too much.

Lord Batman : That was an accident. She's in our best hospital now, and...

The Flash : I don't wanna hear it.

Lord Batman : Believe me, the last thing we want is to lose another...

    The Flash : Another what?

Batman : [Lord Batman leaves without another word]  I think he likes you.

The Flash : Must be my magnetic personality.

Batman : More likely, it has to do with what happened to this world's Flash.

The Flash : You mean he's...

Batman : All this had to have been set off by something.

The Flash : But to go this far, even over me...

Batman : It isn't that far from what we do... if you think about it.

The Flash : I'd rather not. You figured a way out of here?

    Batman : No.

The Flash : Don't you mean not yet?

Batman : No. I mean, not going to.

  • Superman : I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ready to kick some serious...

The Flash : You're gonna have to wait on that. They've got Hawkgirl in a hospital somewhere.

Batman : You need to find out which one she's in and get there before they hear about this.

Superman : This is your city. You know the hospitals better than we do.

Batman : I've got a portal to find.

    J'onn J'onzz : I'll go with you.

Batman : Sorry, I have to do this alone.

  • Batman : I can't believe this is Gotham. Where's the litter?

Lord Batman : If you want people to respect the big laws, you've got to enforce the small ones.

[Batman stops the Batmobile at a red light]

Lord Batman : What are you doing?

Batman : The small laws, remember?

  • Lord Batman : Your friends are tearing up Arkham.

Batman : [heading to the Batmobile]  Then shouldn't we stop them?

  • Batman : [restrained in a prison cell]  One question: why?

Lord Batman : Because you and your friends couldn't do what needed to be done. There are mercury switches at your hands and feet. Any motion, and I'll know about it.

Batman : You've thought of everything.

Lord Batman : No. Just everything you'll ever think of.

  • Lieutenant : Don't make any sudden moves, or we'll vaporize the entire lot of you.

Lord Batman : Hold it. These are my prisoners, and I'm taking them back.

Lieutenant : You're in the right costume, but how do I know you're not one of them?

Lord Batman : Are you questioning my authority, Lieutenant?

Lieutenant : [after a pause]  Put your guns down. Now.

Lord Batman : [leading the Justice League away]  We'll go out the back.

Superman : You fooled 'em. Even I thought you were him.

Lord Batman : I am him.

  • Lord Batman : [finding Batman in the Batcave]  I knew you'd come here. Just like I know you're going to...

    [Batman fires his grappling gun]

    Lord Batman : ...do that.
